Jayce, Not sure what you mean about jerry-cans. The water jugs? These ones said they were food grade so hopefully they will be ok. We have only put water in with a tiny bit of bleach and so far they've been fine. Both of us have them in our basements. Let me know if you can give any more details. Otherwise we'll just have to wait and see if the same thing happens to us and potentially change our recommendations.

Be careful with those plastic jerry-cans pictured from Wal-Mart. I had 6 of them I bought end of last year, and placed mostly indoors. As of now the only one that still can fully hold water is the one I left in the garage, all the rest have slow leaks.

Water only.

Heavy sigh for you. I have a two-year-old who I'm sure would do the same thing if he knew how. So glad it wasn't a bigger emergency and that your hubby knew just what was up. Sounds like it was a bit of a stressful day. Hope things got better for you. Thanks for the wake up call to all of us to get our water ready. Glad you were prepared.

Hope everything is better today.:) Your baby is just the cutest!

When we had a water problem...I think it took me 2 or 3 hours to remember that I had storage water in the basement. Duh!

I was amazed at how quickly we used it though. I was thinking of drinking water, but there are so many other things we need water for. My week supply lasted for about two days. Now, I know we need a LOT more.

We're doing a big emergency preparedness month in January. We talk about making sure you know how to do all shut-offs on our emergency plan checklist under getting started, but you can rest assured that after yesterday's fiasco we will be making sure we make it clear EVERYONE (who is old enough) needs to know how to do EVERYTHING in the house, not just your husband (who could be out of town!)
