This is an old post, but I wanted to add that I made this last night and when I browned the ground beef, I threw in a handful each of dehydrated carrots and celery. I am trying to use up my old stuff (really old dehydrated carrots) and this was actually really a good way to use some.

you could make 'hamburger rocks' by browning, rinsing and dehydrating ground beef, then it could have the burger and still be shelf stable. :-)

Jennifer,

We live in Utah and several of the stores here carry those. We got these when Macey's had their food storage sale a few months back. There are some places online that sell things like that as well. Try http://beprepared.com and http://store.honeyvillegrain.com
