My kids actually prefer it without the cheese cubes. The sauce is not a cheese sauce, just a white sauce. We just CALL it Macaroni and Cheese because the creamy sauce seems cheesy. hehe. Sorry if it seems misleading :)

I am just curious as to why the cheese ingredient is optional when the recipe is called macaroni and cheese? Do you sometimes make it without the cheese too? I am honestly curious, I need literal directions when I am cooking :)

I have a version of mac & cheese which adds some vegetable goodness and which has been a favorite with my daughter since she was a preschooler (she is now 14); add a can of tomato sauce to the pan with the milk, and some broccoli. I cook the broccoli with the macaroni.
Yummy and healthy - a winning combination!
