Here is what I was able to find about the plastic bottles on the net...
http://www.sks-bottle.com/340c/HDPE-PlasticBottles.html
HDPE (high density polyethylene) plastic bottles offer a mildly stiff impact resistant bottle, with a great moisture barrier. The HDPE plastic bottles are available in multiple shapes, and sizes. Theses plastic bottles are also available in natural, white, and amber, and are available with a variety of closure options. Click on any image below for more product information and also to purchase any of the HDPE plastic containers.

PVC PET HDPE LDPE
More info can be found at the web site of the other different bottles.

I rinse out ALL of my water storage bottles (real good-with bleach/water) every 6 months. (Date them on top) with a sticky label. Only-Do a few at a time-just in case your water supple gets turned off! lol One day I was doing this and my water (quit) flowing. No kidding. A guy- a few streets down was digging and you guessed it- he cut into right the line… The repair people were using a back hoe to dig it up so they could repair it. lol Water was out for 5 hours. Thank the good Lord I still had plenty… :-)

What's the difference between PETE and HDPE? I have a few blue 7 gallon and 15 gallons containers that say HDPE. Does that work? How often would you recommend refilling them? 6 months? 1 year? If I have city water, no need to add bleach?
