This video just made me giggle. It is a lot like my mom's food storage, except she has cases of the 30+year old freeze dried veggies that she claims are still good.

I can't wait to see more.

I wish there was a way of organizing my food so that it could be rotated without a lot of hard work. Do you have any ideas or suggestions?

My food safety guide says rotate yearly. If you stagger the storage by adding every month and labeling the bottles then when the year rotation starts you just change out the oldest bottles every month. That's what my friend does. Me I'm just lazy and buy my bottles and use them as I go.

Ya know it can't hurt to bug the Wal-Mart near you. After all you can say "I know that the stores in Idaho and Utah carry a emergency food storage supply." Because I'm in Idaho and I get eggs, milk, butter, different fruits, veggies, soup bases, etc. All at Wal-Mart. Can't hurt to look up where the LDS cannery is too. I'm sure there must be one. Oh the Army/Navy Surplus in Long Beach had tons of this stuff when we lived there. (of course that was 20 years ago) Give them a try.

I wanted to sign up for email newsletter too, but I noticed she hadn't blogged in a while (for good reason of course w/a new baby)
Thanks!
Aimee

I feel like your mom, the rotation scares me. So, I will be really interested in following you all this year.

I see all that water your mom has in juice containers which is how I store mine. How long are those good for? as stored in juice containers. I thought you were suppose to rotate them every so often but how long are they good for?

Love it, but it's always fun to see people you know on "tv." One thing I did this year, since I've been feeling awfully guilty about my own food storage, is ask for it for Christmas. We got a few boxes of cans from Welfare Square, some frozen foods, some bagged freeze dried foods, and a Victorio Grain Mill. Probably the most useful presents ever!
