This is fun - we did something similar when we checked our kits last fall. (We check them in September and March.) I gave each kid a "let's pretend" assignment and they'd race to bring back the items.

For example, let's pretend that:
- The power has gone out and we need a flashlight and glow sticks.
- We have to evacuate with the pets so get the dog leash and the cat carrier.
- Somebody hurt their foot and we need a band-aid and Neosporin.
- We need to listen for storm warnings so get the portable radio and extra batteries.

They had fun, we laughed, and it was light-hearted, but they also did a great job. After we did this game, I let them go through their 72 hour kits and pick treats that they would like to eat, such as their beef jerky or fruit snacks. (Then I made a note for myself of what I needed to replenish.)

We will do this again in the spring, and I will also check to see what food items need to be rotated in our kits.
