We’re so excited to be introducing a FUN new way we will be sharing our Food Storage ideas (and others) with you. All throughout the month of February we’re going to be doing a fun series called “I HEART PINTEREST FEBRUARY”. We’ll be doing some super fun (and informative) stuff with Pinterest, so we invite you to join and follow our boards.

Start now, so you’ll be ready to join the fun in February. (It may take a few days to get in since it’s currently invitation only)

To let you know how it all started – here are actual excerpts of conversations between Jodi and Julie.

Last Fall
JODI: So do you know what this Pinterest thing is that everyone is doing?
JULIE: NO idea. I think you have to be invited or something.
JODI: I’ll start us an account to see if there’s anything food storage on there
JULIE: Go for it.

Just Before Christmas
JULIE: I think there’s something to this Pinterest thing, but I just don’t get it.
JODI: Ya, I started that account, but didn’t know what was going on, so it’s just sitting there.

After Christmas
JULIE: So I actually logged into Pinterest, and messed around a little. I think it might be AMAZING!
JODI: I still don’t get it

Last Week
JULIE: I’m addicted to Pinterest, and keep finding Food Storage stuff all around I want to pin.
JODI: LET’S DO IT!!!

From the about page on Pinterest:
Pinterest lets you organize and share all the beautiful things you find on the web. People use pinboards to plan their weddings, decorate their homes, and organize their favorite recipes. (And save Food Storage ideas, pictures, inspirations, and tutorials…. ok WE may have added THAT part)

Best of all, you can browse pinboards created by other people. Browsing pinboards is a fun way to discover new things and get inspiration from people who share your interests. (Like Food Storage)

I HEART PINTEREST FEBRUARY

There are so many fun, and creative ideas for using and storing your Food Storage on the net. There are also great tutorials, lists, and ideas. If you’re anything like us, we will see something we’d like to do, and hope we remember to come back to it later… but never do. Pinterest is a way for you to save all the ideas you see around the web, and ACTUALLY come back to them later. In FEBRUARY, we’ll be highlighting some of our favorite things on our Pinterest boards. Our boards will contain a lot of our top posts and other stuff we find around the net that WE like. (We have a few teasers on our boards for now, but purposefully have left them a little bit empty so that you can see all the great stuff coming through your feeds over the next few weeks!)

We are so excited to show everyone how useful this will be for building their food storage (but forgive us in advance if you get addicted)

Today we want to introduce you to a cool way to connect with us and see some content that is NOT available on the blog. (Remember on Thursday Julie hinted that the rest of our Summer Powerless Cooking Adventures will mostly only be posted on YouTube and Facebook?)

You may have noticed that the videos we embed on our website are hosted by YouTube. This is a way that is easy for us to get videos online for our blog, but it’s also a whole little community over there. If you are already have a YouTube account, we would love it if you would subscribe to our channel, check out more of our videos, and become our “friend”.

Food Storage Pep Talk

We had a great time this weekend at the Food Storage Fair in Ogden – yes yes, we know – why don’t they do these things EVERYWHERE? We were asked to be presenters and we had a vendor booth to sell our eBooks (that we put on Disc for shows and expos) and WonderMills. It was so much fun and we LOVED the enthusiasm everyone there had for Food Storage. The only drawback of the event was that while we were manning our booth, we couldn’t go to all the excellent classes. BUT luckily some of our favorite readers were there and we’re going to work on convincing them to share (hint hint Becky -making mozzarella cheese out of powdered milk….)

Our class was for people who were “Getting Started”. We were happy that was our topic because we by no means feel like experts. We’re just sharing what we do with our Food Storage in our own experience. We thought since everyone couldn’t be there, we would share our slideshow notes with you… We really ought to make each one of these slides its own post, but for now you’ll have to just enjoy the cliff notes version.

So here goes it – this was our

	This is where we introduced ourselves and told people how we got started.
	For this slide, we made a little disclaimer – while we live and sleep food storage, we’re not total experts – but what we are good at, is helping people get started and excited about their food storage.
	Here we talked about all the SCARY food storage words that paralyzed us when we first got started.
	We weren’t afraid to show where we were 2 years ago, so the audience could see we really have come a LONG way.
	This is where we started talking about the common stumbling blocks. The first stumbling block is having NO IDEA where to start. Our checklists solve that problem.
	The NO SPACE excuse is so OLD! We solved this a long time ago with the help or our readers in our “Small Storage Spaces Solutions” post and handout
	No Time? No problem. Use food storage as a time-saver and cook things ahead of time like pizza pockets and pre-made smoothie mixes
	No Money- No problem. Jodi shared a lot of her lessons learned about how people with small budgets can use food storage to SAVE money.
	Now we get into the “Strategies” – Sometimes you just have to snap and get something done. Pick a day each month to work on things.
	Recommit… If you fall off the Food Storage train, remember you can always come back on and work little by little.
	If at first you don’t succeed- try try again. Like Julie tried again and again to finally fall in love with beans.
	Ever think getting things done with kids around is too hard- plan on things taking an extra 15-20 minutes and involve them. You’ll make great memories and teach great lessons.
	Like Jodi and Julie, get a friend to try all the new and exciting things in the world of Food Storage. Messing up is so much more fun when you have someone to laugh with.
	Make a plan, and use our ebook binder to help you stay organized!

We really had so much fun and met some cool companies and vendors at the fair. We’ll be reviewing some of Peggy Layton’s books, along with Emergency Food in a Nutshell by Leslie Probert and Lisa Harkness. We felt so excited and honored to meet these Food Storage experts.

We also met companies who have all sorts of different types of foods we want to learn more about. We also saw some cool solar ovens/ battery packs we’ll be researching.

Jodi also will probably dedicate an entire post to the lady selling honey of all sorts of varieties and flavors, while Julie tells you how much she drooled over some awesome storage containers – but alas this post is TOO LONG!

GREAT New Handout and Womens Expo Review!

This weekend we had the opportunity to go to the Utah Valley Women’s Expo and be a part of the Bloggers corner. We met a lot of YOU our readers and had a great time. At the expo, we handout out a BRAND NEW brochure style handout with our COMPLETE Emergency Preparedness Plan on it. We wanted ALL our readers to have it too, so here it is…Click to download.

We had a lot of great conversations and met a lot of fun people, here are just a few of the things that stood out.

Meeting one of our readers who told us she has her Food Storage Made Easy Binder FULL of all sorts of resources she has compiled over the last year, and that a 1 inch binder was just not big enough
Seeing the shock on people’s face when we showed them what a Wondermill can do, and giving away a Wondermill to a lucky winner
Watching people avoid direct eye contact with us, as the whole topic of Food Storage mainly just freaked them OUT
Having YOU our readers come say hi… It was way more fun talking to YOU then talking to people who couldn’t figure out why the Food Storage booth had to be so PINK.

We also got to sit next to some GREAT women Bloggers. We had no idea we would make new friends while we were there too. You should totally check out some of our new friends:

Kara, from Creations by Kara – who makes these totally cute bows that we bought for Jodi’s daughter and Julie’s niece.
Kim and Kris- the most adorable twins from the DIY Dish who do webisodes teaching you how to do great stuff – one of which is a lamp recovering tutorial that Julie is so going to do – when she “finishes” her bedroom.
Elisa – a girl after Julie’s own heart (we talked about PIZZA)… she is from Mormon Mommy Blogs (where we contribute monthly) and the Casual Blogger Conference which Julie is hoping to attend (if her husband will agree to take the boys ONE more weekend).
Vanessa and Camille from Sassy Scoops. We regretted not going to one of their girls nights outs now that we know they are so fun!

Being busy mommy bloggers we don’t get “out” much and thought it was so fun to meet some of our fellow bloggers in REAL LIFE!

Food Storage Made Easy and RSS Feeds

If you are familiar with “blogging” and/or follow a lot of blogs, you probably already have a system in place to stay up to date on all your favorite blogs. However, if you are a blog newbie or only follow one or two blogs, you may just bookmark the sites and try to remember to check back to see if anything new has been posted.

We actually started our blog before we really knew what the whole blogging world was all about, so we didn’t discover the beauty of RSS feeds for quite some time. We thought we would share with you a quick lesson on RSS feeds and how to use them so that you don’t have to go through the hassle of manually checking in to see if we have posted anything new.

We asked our tech-savvy cousin Sam to help explain what RSS is and how to use it in a quick tutorial video. You may be seeing more of Sam in the future as we will be picking his brain for a future series on doing “Food Storage on a Budget”. His personal finance blog is a great resource for helping you get your finances in order.

Our Why Food Storage? series post is going to be delayed just a little bit as we spent the whole weekend working on a HUGE project that we are very excited about.

If you have ever clicked on our Links Page you may have noticed it was sort of pathetic. We always had big dreams of making it into a very useful, one-stop-shop for all your food storage and emergency preparedness needs. However, it was always one of those projects that got pushed to the wayside for other more pressing projects. Well this weekend we finally snapped and decided to make the page into what we always wanted it to be. We hope you find it helpful in your search for food storage information.
