Patriotic Blender Wheat Waffles

Fruit Recipes, Recipes, Wheat Recipes
My kids LOVE when I "celebrate" holidays by making festive foods. I don't always love throwing food color into everything so I'm trying to do better at using natural foods to liven things up. I was going to make some patriotic blender wheat pancakes for dinner but the kids insisted on waffles instead so I decided to give it a try! Here's a little video showing my experiment :) Patriotic Blender Wheat Waffle Recipe Ingredients: 1 1/2 cups wheat kernels 1 2/3 cups milk (can use powdered milk equivalent) 2 T. sugar 1 T. baking powder 1/2 tsp. salt 1 medium banana (mashed) 6 T. vegetable oil 2 large eggs (can use powdered egg equivalent) Optional Ingredients: 1/2 cup mini chocolate chips 2 cups freeze-dried strawberries 1 cup freeze-dried blueberries…

Strawberry Macaroons (Food Storage Cookies!)

Fruit Recipes, Recipes
I have a confession to make. I'm in love with the Thrive Macaroon Cookie Mix. If you ever need a super fast and amazingly delicious treat to bring to an event, these are THE thing to make. It's a cookie mix and you just add water, scoop onto a cookie sheet and cook for fifteen minutes. EVERY time I bring these somewhere I get asked for the recipe and have to sheepishly admit they are from a can mix. I don't care though. They are so good that I always offer to bring the treat, just so I can have an excuse to make them. They are awesome to keep as a comfort food in your food storage, but we always eat through them faster than I can replenish! Today…

4th of July JELLO and Freeze-Dried Fruit Sale

Fruit Recipes, Recipes
If you are having an Independence Day celebration where you are supposed to bring a food dish, I highly recommend the Patriotic Jello I posted about last year. I don't get to make it this year so I'm hoping some of our readers will make it and let me know how it turned out so that I can pretend I got to enjoy it myself. For a full step-by-step tutorial on how to make this (including how to do it with Freeze-Dried fruits) visit this post. I seriously love that even if I were living completely off of food storage I could have a fun, festive dessert like this! Freeze-Dried Fruit and Veggie Sale Some of you may remember that Lindon Farms had an A-MAZING sale on their freeze-dried fruit…

Food Storage Recipes: Super Cherry Pie

Fruit Recipes, Recipes
My favorite desserts always revolve around cherries. Cherry cheesecake, cherry pie, cherry cobbler. Why does cherry pie filling have to be so delicious? My mom has the BEST cherry pie recipe ever but I always hate to make it because I don't typically keep sweetened condensed milk on hand (even though I SHOULD!) and it's kind of expensive too. So when I discovered you can make this magical ingredient using your food storage POWDERED MILK I was just thrilled and had to share my joy with you all. So thanks to my dear mother, here is a fantastic dessert you will have to try yourself! Super Cherry Pie Recipe Ingredients: 1/3 c. slivered almonds – press into pie shell before baking, then bake 1 c. Eagle brand sweetened condensed milk*…

Smoothies – On a Food Storage Blog?

Baking Ingredients, Fruit and Vegetable Recipes, Fruit Recipes, Recipes
So I have been making these delicious smoothies lately and couldn't figure out if I could justify sharing the recipe on a food storage blog. The other day when I ran out of milk it dawned on me I could try some of my powdered milk in it instead. Well, I did it! It was delicious, so now I can officially share the recipe on a food storage blog (not to mention all the other ingredients are frozen, so they can count as food storage if you have a big freezer). Fruit and Yogurt Smoothies Serving Size: 2 large glasses Prep Time: 5 minutes (if you make a bunch of baggies ahead of time) Ingredients (if you skip the sugar, they're actually REALLY healthy): 3/4 cup of frozen strawberries 1/2…
