I've been working with your web site for several months now. Of all the available sites I find this one the easiest most well-thought out one around. Congrats ladies...and thank you!!

Hi Lacie, Our recommendations provide for a 2300 calorie per day diet for
adults based off of just these basic foods. Obviously if you supplement
with fruits and veggies etc you can eat less of these staple items. You can
read more about the recommendations at this link:
http://www.simplyprepared.com/basic%20food%20storage.htm Hope that helps!

I just found your site this week, and I'm LOVING it! I thank you for all of your hard work, and want you to know that the info you have posted is making a daunting task seem manageable. :)

My question is this...with your Long Term Food Storage Excel Calculator, how many calories per day are we getting? My plan is for 2 adults, 3 children, for 12 months. I haven't been able to find information to know if this will be a bare minimum of 1200 adult calories per day, or a heftier amount which I need to supplement with other foods to feel more like normal.

Again, I think you ladies are doing a great job, and I look forward to discovering more on your site. :)

That's a great idea of something to add. We did a post about
appliances you may want here:
http://foodstoragemadeeasy.net/2011/02/25/food-storage-appliances/ We
also discuss a lot of recommended products under our SHOP ONLINE
section. We haven't really put together a list of "must-have gadgets"
though. We might have to add that in to our posting schedule :)

Also, do you know of any great instructional videos or books on cooking on top of an earth stove? We live out in the country in Oregon. Worst case scenario, long term, no power... solar ovens wouldnt work around here, thinking aside from a camp stove/propane, why not learn to cook on top of the wood stove? Keep the house warm and make dinner too.

Hi, wondering if you have a gadget checklist? Something that has a list of recommended kitchen gadgets that will be needed with your food storage? Such as a manual wheat grinder, manual can opener, etc... I'm still new to the site and searching, printing, saving, filling out. Who knew this would be fun, right?

I have filled in one month's worth of meals and listed most of the ingredients. I haven't checked recipes. I don't understand how it calculates how many of them I need for the month. Or do I have to figure that myself? I also haven't counted how many on hand.
