Insta-Fire (Cooking Fuel)

INSTA-FIRE

Insta Fire is a safe, simple, and versatile new fire starting product. It has water-repellant properties, a fifteen minute burn time and a thirty year shelf life. Use it to light campfires, prepare charcoal briquettes, or as a safe and reliable fuel source for cooking or heating in emergency situations. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE your website!  Ordered a few things for Christmas, including the Insta-Fire Individual Packets.  Your website shows the packet that is labeled with user information.  What I received were 50 packets in small clear zip lock bags and no labeling.  Giving for neighbor gifts–but I will need to label and add instructions to each one.  Uggggghhh.

Oh Elaine I’m sorry! I wonder if they started packaging them differently without us knowing. We will look into this asap.

  • Melanie Hoem

Looks great for an emergency, but doesn’t seem very safe to store…  How do you store it to keep your home safe??

    • http://foodstoragemadeeasy.net Jodi and Julie

We found this on the Insta-Fire website. *Q. Is Insta-Fire dangerous – Will it explode?*

      A. Insta-Fire is NOT a combustible therefore there is no explosion hazard, due to the wax substance it is recommended that Insta-fire be kept in a cool dry place or the wax will melt above 150 degrees.

    Hi,
First let me say what an awesome website. You 2 have great energy!
Question: Could you use the insta fire with the stove in a can? And do you think it would be cheaper than the stove in a can refills?
    Thanks Chris

    • http://foodstoragemadeeasy.net Jodi – Food Storage Made Easy

Yes I think it would work just fine (it’s similar to the #10 can stoves we talk about). I definitely think Insta-Fire would be cheaper than the fuel pellets. Great idea!

Whoo hoo! We got something similar to the single use packets at Walmart last year and this year they dont carry them! We had given up finding something… Hubby will be thrilled when I show him this!

Ladies, I know my husband & I would definitely be interested in the insta-fire. Hopefully soon, we’ll be able order it. The main problem we have right now is that many areas of Southwest Texas are having “exceptional” drought conditions, and we are also under a burn-ban until further notice.  I’m not even sure if we’re allowed to use our grill at this time because of the concern of sparks flying all over. Does the insta-burn create sparks?

    Thanks! :)

    • http://foodstoragemadeeasy.net Jodi – Food Storage Made Easy

Here is a response from the owner of the Insta-Fire company: “I completely
understand your concern, although Insta-fire itself does not throw off any
sparks or cinders, using the product in a grill with charcoal briquettes in
a stiff wind or a high breeze, the charcoal itself will throw off a cinder.
As many parts of Texas are under a “no burn” or a ban from burning this
would include grills and open fires. Thank you for our interest and please,
keep us in mind when the ban is lifted, we know you will enjoy using
      Insta-fire”

  • kay

ditto ques about how many uses for 2gal bucket; also same ques for 5 gal. thank you.

    • http://foodstoragemadeeasy.net Jodi – Food Storage Made Easy

The 5 gallon bucket is 80 cups and you can boil 2-4 cups of water with
1 cup. So the 2 gallon would probably be about 30-35 cups, just under
      half of the 5 gallon.

  • Cindy

Do you know how many fires you can start with the two gallon size (as compared to the 24 single use packets)?

    • Luvmygrlsnben

The answer to that is 32. 80 cups in 5 gallons=16 cups a gallon=32 cups in your 2 gallon bucket! 1 cup per fire=32 fires in a 2 gallon bucket!!! You get more fires from the bucket but you need to weigh that against the convenience of the individualy wrapped single use.

However you could always put in individual bags yourself and save a lot of money and still have the convenience…lol

        • http://foodstoragemadeeasy.net Jodi – Food Storage Made Easy

          That’s what I did ;)

          • Belong12

            Jodi,
What kind of “packaging” did you use for your individual bags and how much did you put in each one?

          • http://foodstoragemadeeasy.net Jodi – Food Storage Made Easy

I just stuck about 1 cup in a few ziplock bags. My hubby took them on
a camping trip with my kids and said they were great! I would
probably want something a little more secure for longer storage like
in 72 hour kits, etc. Maybe sealed in foodsaver bags?

          • Terryorcindy

i would use the heat shrink machine to get air out, it will keep better too I think

  • Carole

a little wax and paper egg cartons and you can make these yourself for almost FREE! just melt wax and dip in the egg cartons we cut into ’2 or 4′ cup sections, dip in wax and allow to cool, if you want more like above add a little saw dust! other wise works the same way :0)

  • Hamcmullin

Can you buy this in Canada?

    • http://foodstoragemadeeasy.net Jodi – Food Storage Made Easy

I am not sure on the availability in Canada. If you wanted to order
it through us we could probably work something out but would just need
to charge an additional shipping cost. Feel free to mail us at
info@foodstoragemadeeasy.net if you want to discuss this further.
      Thanks!
