I paid via Paypal, but my download was interrupted because Internet Ex. timed me out. So instead, I went to “open” and printed it all (with great difficulty because when I had to stop to replace a cartridge, etc., the printing process (starting at the end) stopped). As a result, I asked for pages 1-50, etc., and finally, I think I got most of it. However, when I left, Paypal said that they had stopped the transaction when I was interrupted. I already have quite a bit of food storage and know-how. My problem is in the organizing and keeping track of it as I rotate. Will this product help with that? Also, I have food allergies in my family, so we cook almost completely from scratch. Will I be able to use your recipes or do they mostly use pre-packaged foods such as cake mix and spaghetti sauce? (In the past I have subscribed to recipe lists and been disappointed to find they were mostly using processed foods and not very healthy at all).

Are the recipes in the book for making things from scratch? For example will the recipes say to use a can of beans or to use dried beans, another example- use a taco mix packet or list out the ingredients to make your own taco seasoning mix..

As a family, our goal is to have our 72 kits completed, do an evacuation drill for Family Home Evening, and to complete our three months food supply. I already have the menus planned (foods that we actually eat), now I’m gradually filling up the cupboards and shelves. Would you consider changing the color of the recipe titles in the recipe appendex? They print out so faded that neither my husband, myself, or our two neighbors could easily read them. I tried printing some of the pages on two different printers using the best quality setting and it still wasn’t any better.

When you do it in black and white the peach. titles disappear completely. Where the peach color is in larger type and bolded it shows up enough to read, but still is not the optimal. Love the content, but I do not want to print up the 20 I paid for for gifts with this problem as it is.
When would the next update of the binder be done? I planned to give these as gifts at our annual family reunion as I am in charge of a session on being self reliant in our break-out sessions. Thanks

Gluten-free was not really considered as we put this together. We have two checklists dedicated to purchasing wheat, although we do offer some alternatives. We typically offer recipe ideas based off of whatever item you are purchasing in that checklist. We are going to be starting a series on gluten free food storage soon and we will definitely be adding in those recipes, tips, and ideas as optional updates to the binder, so even if it’s not perfect for you now, you will get the supplements later as we develop them. Gluten free would contain items like brown rice flours, white rice flours, millet, quinoa, spelt, and many more. The problem is the high acidity in the brown rice and other grains that contain substantial oils and would not do well stored in a #10 (metal) can. I store my rice flours in the large buckets, although I’m not sure how long they would keep well in these buckets.

I meant the binder FILE, whenever we refer to binder it is the 100+ page pdf file that you download. We normally try to say binder file or binder ebook to avoid confusion. We don’t send a binder. We give instructions how to compile all of the printouts into your own Food Storage Binder. We really want it to be used as a binder rather than just an ebook you read online, so that is why we emphasize the binder part of it. It is a whole program that helps you step by step and works best if you print it out and then continue to add to it as you do your own research or with our updates that we send out periodically. It is an eBook. You will receive a link to download the file to your computer. You can then use the materials on your computer, or we give detailed instructions how to print it out and put it together into a cute pink binder. I love using mine in print form but other people find it easier to just read it on their computer. Hope that helps!

When you purchase the binder you should have been added to the binder updates email list. When you confirm to be added to that list it will automatically send you our past two batches of updates. The next ones will be coming out before the end of the year and will be emailed to the binder updates mailing list when they are available.

Definitely work on WATER first. Then make sure you have a solution figured out for powerless cooking. Then just start cranking on the long term foods simultaneous to purchasing your three month supply. Make sure you have the tools you need to COOK the food you are storing and learn how to use it. Why wouldn’t you just use the duplex option on the printer? When you go to print, you usually have a “preferences” or “properties” button. Clcik that. Then you have a “duplex” option on the “setup” tab. Choose “open to left”. Then it will automatically print on both sides. I guess this assumes that you have a relatively recent printer. I have several printers, the oldest of which is at least 5 years old, and it has that option.

I guess the real question is, if the book is divided into sections, does each new section start on an odd page. If so, each new section will be printed on a new sheet, as opposed to the last page of the previous section.

In the instructions we say to have a set of 5 tabs and a set of 10 tabs. In the 10 tabs you put each of the 10 BABYSTEPS. They have divider pages separating them so they are easy to find. You will have a separate tab (1 of the 5) for all of the checklists. Then as you work on a checklist you can easily flip to the step page that is being discussed in the list. For the updates, you can either put all of them under “Beyond the Babysteps”, or put them in the step section that makes sense. Some of them are obvious like water purification would go in the water tab. Others that aren’t so obvious can just be stuck in beyond the babysteps. Hope that helps a bit.

Yes the binder file comes as a pdf. I don't have a kindle but I'm assuming if it accepts pdfs then it will work just fine!

I thought that was something that came with your binder. If not, how do I pay for those lifetime updates? And, when will there be or has there been some updates since May/June?

My husband says he doesn’t like having all the extras. With the extra time that has been found from purchasing & storing products at home I’m baking more…which has resulted in a weight gain he doesn’t appreciate. The kids love it though & so do I! Who ever thought one would have more time to bake/cook by having lots stored?!

Also, have you ever thought of a vegetarian/vegan section with recipes? When you don’t use meat, cheese, dairy products it does really change the recommendations in the 3 month supplies.

Yes, the binder is in a pdf format so it should definitely be compatible on the mac. All of our spreadsheets we use on our site are included in the binder as pdfs in case you can’t get them to work from our site. Hope that helps!

I just bought, downloaded & printer the Food Storage Binder and all i can say is WOW!!! I am just getting into the whole food storage thing and felt very overwhelmed when I’d check out other people’s sites, some have more than a year’s worth of food, medical and other supplies already stocked. I really didn’t know where to begin or how to do it. I bought a shelving unit (plastic) and its slowly getting filled up. I feel like such a latecomer to all of this but your binder is awesome!!! So much information and great ideas, I don’t feel so overwhelmed by the thought of food storage anymore haha. Thank you so much!!!!!

I just bought, downloaded and printed the binder and I want to say THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! Such awesome material and it’s a huge lifesaver for my children and I. As a single mom raising 2 teenage boys, I have to budget my income. However, I have started a small supply already, its not much, but would feed us for at least a couple weeks. I know that with this information, my food and supply preparedness will definately be waaaay more organized. Again, THANK YOU!!!!!
