I’m not sure the size of the sport sun oven, but each dehydrating rack is 12″ x 9″ x 1.5″

I ordered one today. But then I read bad reviews on Amazon. Most people write that their food has a plastic taste after being cooked in the Sun Oven. Have you had that problem?

Sun Oven provides instructions on how to clean your oven before use to avoid this. Like any appliance or new item, you’re supposed to clean them first. Ours works well without this problem.

I know this can’t be one of the free prizes but… I have wanted one for a few years now. You said pick one you might like so, I had to pick the SunOven.
All month I was saving to get it on sale. Then, I lost my job. Now I am using what little of the food storage I have to make ends meet. This isn’t a poor me story however. I am glad that I had some food storage to fall back on. I also see a light at the end of this particular tunnel. It is just a few short months away.
I never thought this would be something I would invest in, until I had to go with out power for a few days. Now my birthday and hollidays that I get gifts, I ask for this type of thing. For example on mothers day, I got a pressure cooker!!! Now, I just see nothing but smart when I hear about people being prepared with contraptions just like this one.

You cannot use glass lids because they will reflect the sun away from the food instead of directing it into the pot. At least that was the way I understood it. You might be able to make it work if you covered them with tinfoil. But the owner of Sun Oven told me that using dark pans with dark lids will give you the best results. Hope that helps!

Actually, one of the pans included in this set comes with a glass lid. Glass is fine to use in the Sun Oven from what I have read. You should not use tin foil however because it will reflect the sun away from the food not attract it.

I think they are just working out all the kinks now that more people are using them and they are getting alot of feedback. If someone had concerns about using an exisiting glass pan I have seen recommendations on painting them black. People are making soup in mason jars that they spray painted black. They put a strip of masking tape down the side of the jar before painting, then peel it off and they have a window to keep an eye on the soup.

I have tasted the food and seen/tasted the bread made from the Global Sun Oven. It is absolutely wonderful. It can stay in the GSO all day, and stays moist and delicious. I was super impressed this oven.

Yes! It just depends on sun shining through. If it is slightly cloudy it should still work but will not get to as high of temperatures and will therefore take a little longer to cook.

Brian you crack me up. We will be doing some videos, not sure about home shopping network style though, lol. You need to use a dark pot that has a tight fitting lid or else the food doesn’t cook properly. For the baking I believe you can use any bread pans or cookie sheets.

Yes I have a Sun Oven. I’m definitely planning to do some posts about it soon. You can cook with it as long as it is a clear day. Slightly cloudy days can still work but it will extend the necessary cooking time. If there is no view of the sun it will not cook. Hope that helps a bit!

When using solar cookers its important to be beaware of how long its taking to cook, whats being cooked, and the temperature being obtained on that day. Food safety is important while trying to use a solar cooker, esp. on a cloudy day. Scm

Can you explain what the 3 & 4 qt. pots are like? Is there a particular pot that should be used in the solar ovens? Are the pots the only difference between the 3 prices of solar ovens? Are there different sizes of solar ovens?

The pots are black pots with lids. That is what is recommended to use for best results in the Sun Oven. And yes the three prices just reflect the pots included. There is only one size of Global Sun Oven.
