I  am fixing to buy the ‘Deluxe Jr.’ and I am wondering how to purchase the ‘drill’ attachment? I do not see mention of this on the site. Thankx gals…;0)

    • http://foodstoragemadeeasy.net Jodi and Julie

When you place your order you can just put in a note that you want to be invoiced for the drill bit attachment. We’ll send you a paypal invoice for that part. Sorry our system isn’t that great for that yet!

  • Smagnuson58

How heavy is the junior deluxe? I have all granite counter tops and my husband says that it is too heavy and might crack the granite when clamped on.  I really want to purchase a non-electric grain mill, what to do?

    • http://foodstoragemadeeasy.net Jodi and Julie

It’s only 16 pounds. I don’t think it would have any problems with the granite!

  • Anonymous

I would like to start Food Storage but having a hard time making a decision on where to start.  If I buy the soft wheat to make bread is there any other way to grind it other than a Grain Mill (I really can’t afford one right now)?

    • http://foodstoragemadeeasy.net Jodi and Julie

We borrowed grain mills when we first got started and would grind a LOT of flour all at once and then put it in our freezer and use it for awhile. You can also buy the flour already ground so you can have good practice using it, while you save up for a mill. Hope that helps :)

  • Tami

I ordered the electric Wonder Mill  on the 8th I believe.  It hasn’t gone through my account & I don’t think I received any email confirmation.  Are you waiting to charge & send them out?

Ordered the Wonder Mill this morning and am excited to start this new phase of our lives.  I am still learning and love your website!  I grew up with a mom that is totally into food storage but your website has made a great resource for all of us!  Thanks.

We have been looking at different mills for Christmas.  We were finally able to make a decision and purchase one.  Thank you so much for the opportunity to try and win one.  Thanks!

  • Txjeep

Thank you, thank you.  I just ordered the Wonder Mill electric.  Best price, and free shipping.   Having a one in twenty chance of winning a mill is a great opportunity.  And the books!  What a nice present.  Thanks again, Susan

Does the Wonder Junior Basic grind popcorn or do you need the burr heads to grind it since it’s more of a ‘wet’ grain?

    • Brent

Actually popcorn is actually a dry grain and is best ground with the stone burrs, which comes with the Wonder Junior Basic. Almost all dry corns can be milled with the stone burrs.

  • Elainefralick62

Do you sell the drill attachment that can go with the wonder Junior Deluxe model?

    • http://foodstoragemadeeasy.net Jodi and Julie

Yes we can order the drill attachment for you. Email us at info@foodstoragemadeeasy.net and we can let you know the details!

  • Alexa_wolfe

I use the Wondermill to mill gluten free flour. The WonderMill may be quieter than other impact mills, but the sucker still sounds like a jet engine taking off especially after all of the grain has passed through. If you are considering buying this, just make sure that you are careful about not putting grain in the hopper while it is off and check frequently to make sure the flour does not clog the machine. Depending on what flour and how much flour you are grinding, you can blow the engine out quite easily. I use it once or twice a month and sent it back for repairs after a year. (Note: one of the perks of a nutrimill is that you are supposed to be able to turn the machine on/off with grain still in the hopper….of course it does cost more). That being said, as long as you are careful with your Wondermill, it churns out pretty nice flour at a good price. For my next mill I am considering purchasing a KoMo mill…..pricier but much quieter and smaller.

  • Mike Hadaway

I think the WonderMill Electric is a great buy.  I also like the WonderMill JR Deluxe.  What are the drawbacks of the WonderMill Basic, if any?

    • http://foodstoragemadeeasy.net Jodi – Food Storage Made Easy

The Basic is still a great mill but you do not have the steel burrs which allow you to grind oily things like seeds and nuts. It also doesn’t include the clamp so you will have to screw it to a wood table or something in order to use it. And you don’t get the new flour shield and cleaning brush. THe Deluxe is a far better value in my opinion!

  • http://foodstoragemadeeasy.net Jodi – Food Storage Made Easy

We can sell the small grains attachment but we have to charge shipping and processing for it unless it is ordered with a mill. The price is $15 and then an additional $10 to cover our shipping costs. If you are interested in making a purchase let us know and we can send you an invoice for it. Thanks!

What is the difference between the deluxe and the basic? I’m just looking for a good hand mixer for my emergency food storage and to use a few times a month to make bread. Eventually I will also get an electric mixer, but for now I just want a hand mixer. Please let me know or email me at haleybethhill@gmail.com. Thanks!

Does it do corn? dried corn kernels or popcorn?

I have a Nutrimill and would like an option for a mill that does not have to use electricity.

Can the Wonder Junior do flour fine enough to make flour for bread, with 1 grind? Or will I need to put the flour back through (grind/mill more than once) to make flour?

    • Mrs W

Have you compared a WonderMill Junior to a Country Living Grain Mill? I have been told the Country one has a 20 yr warranty and I know the price is about $400. If I’m purchasing a hand grain mill, I only want to purchase 1 and have no regrets. I don’t want to end up purchasing an additional one.

      • http://foodstoragemadeeasy.net Jodi – Food Storage Made Easy

Yes it does corn or popcorn.  It has a large range of levels it can
grind from very fine to cracked wheat.  It will make bread flour in
one grind.  the Wonder Jr comes with a limited lifetime warranty, and
it is very sturdy.  Compared to the Country Living Grain Mill there
have been a few comparisons done.  This is from WonderMill’s website
“In a test performed at the WonderMill test kitchen, the Wonder Junior
was able to grind 1 ¼ cups of flour in a single minute *80 turns*.
This is 65% (about 1/2 cup) more than we were able to produce with the
Country Living grain mill with the same flour setting and the same
amount of turns *80 turns*, and for half the price”  And here is an
independent comparison done (but it was done using the older version
        of the Wonder Jr.
        http://pgward.org/ep/wp-content/uploads/2009/03/wheatgrindercompare.jpg
         Hope that helps!

Hello, thanks for your extensive site. I’m wondering how much wheat do you have to grind to get enough flour to make bread maybe 3 to 5 cups flour. Also how much work is that with the hand crank.
    Thank you,
    Jessie

    • http://foodstoragemadeeasy.net Jodi – Food Storage Made Easy

I emailed you this info too. You get about 1 1/4 cup of flour for
every cup of wheat.  So if you needed 5 cups of flour it would take
about 4 cups of wheat.   In a test performed at the WonderMill test
kitchen, the Wonder Junior was able to grind 1 ¼ cups of flour in a
single minute *80 turns*.  So in less than 5 minutes you could have
enough for your batch of bread.  Hope that helps!

I have a Magic mill III my wonderful Aunt gave me but my problem is the dust it creates. I get all sneezey and my allergies get going. Not a fun experience. I just ordered a WonderMill because of all the reviews I have read about less dust. I am super excited! Thanks Ladies!

    • http://foodstoragemadeeasy.net Jodi – Food Storage Made Easy

Yippee! We’ll get the order processed today. You will LOVE the WonderMill!

The Wonder Junior Deluxe Hand Grain has a new version out that has a “collar” around the grind head to keep the grain from shooting in all directions. Do you sell this new model? The one pictured here is the older model.

    • http://foodstoragemadeeasy.net Jodi – Food Storage Made Easy

Yep, all orders being shipped out are the new model. We just haven’t
had time to update our page yet. We are planning to do a post
      explaining the new features soon!

  • Linda

Help! I thought I found some info on a hand grinder/flaker that is the only grinder recommended by the LDS Church. Does Anyone know how I can find it? Thanks in advance!!

  • Cbeecher1

You can get a wheat grinder for like 49.99 through Samsclub.com. These are way to expensive.

    • http://foodstoragemadeeasy.net Jodi – Food Storage Made Easy

If you just want one for a “worst case scenario” then a $50 grinder MIGHT be ok. But to use it on a daily basis to grind enough wheat to cook with is not feasible. The one I tried took 5 minutes for 1/2 a cup of flour. I never would use my wheat or learn how to cook with it at that rate.

  • idispatch4911

I wonder if you ladies or anyone has tried out the wheat mill/grinder attachment for the Kitchenaid Mixers? Any comments or suggestions or reviews would be helpful. I already have a hand grinder and don’t want another electric appliance to take up space.

    • http://foodstoragemadeeasy.net Jodi – Food Storage Made Easy

I haven’t tried it but we have heard from a few people that it burnt up their kitchenaid motor …

    • Mlet

We use the family grain mill attachment for the kitchenaid, and that one is really slow compared to these impact mills. I worry about my motor, too, since it takes me like an hour to put my few cups of wheat through twice. Don’t know about the read KA attachment.

      • http://foodstoragemadeeasy.net Jodi – Food Storage Made Easy

We have had a few readers say the kitchenaid wheat grinder attachment
burnt up their motor. However, we haven’t personally tried it
ourselves. I used to have a hand mill and I only used it once to try
it out and then I never wanted to use it again (I have a cheap one).
Once I get my electric wondermill I started using it (and my
        wheat/corn/etc.) several times a week.

the correct shipping amount. Hope that helps!

  • Nellieluce

I know you seel the Wondermill, but I am also looking at the Nutrimill. I have looked at charts & don’t see much difference. Anyone have comments on both? I currently have an OLD (20 years or older) VitaMix that I can grind grain with, but it seem to get pretty hot & I worry about loss of nutrients. It is a cumbersome thing to clean also, to make SURE there are no little wheats left in it! I want to start to learn to crack different grains, do breads with seed & grains as well as grind wheat & other grains into different textured flours. Any good resources to find out how to do this & how to use the different grain & grinds? Thanks in advance for your help! Jill

  • Emalkire

Will any of the mills do gluten free grains such as rice, buckwheat, quinoa, millet, beans into flour?

    • http://foodstoragemadeeasy.net Jodi – Food Storage Made Easy

Yes! Both mills will grind all of those grains and legumes. The
electric mill just can’t grind oily seeds and nuts as it will clog up
      the electric components.

    Dear Jodie & Judy,
could you please tell me the shipping costs for a wondermill grain mill to either Holland or Switserland?
    Thank you!

    • http://foodstoragemadeeasy.net Jodi – Food Storage Made Easy

It would be an additional $75 in shipping. Also if you need the 240 V. mill that is more expensive than the 110 V. model. The Manual Grinder would be the same cost though. Hope that helps!

Could you please answer to some questions I have?
1.For how long do the stones last?
2.Can we order an extra pair of stones and what is the price for it?
3.How much is the extra charge for shipping to Greece?
4.How can I pay for the mill?
    5.Is the mill reliable?
6.In case we order large quantities of mills to sell them in Greece, will the price per mill change?
    Thank you very much.

    • http://foodstoragemadeeasy.net Jodi – Food Storage Made Easy

#1 – These high quality stones are 1/3 thicker than the competition. Made for years of heavy duty grinding.
#2 – An extra set of stones is $35.00
#3 – Shipping to Greece is an additional $70
#4 – International orders are placed at this link: http://foodstoragemadeeasy.net/international.html
#5 – Wonder Juniors have very few problems. They are extremely sturdy, high quality hand grinders.
#6 – If you are planning to resell mills in Greece I believe you would need to work with WonderMill directly or with their UK distributor. You would need to become an authorized dealer. However, if you just organized a group buy, we could probably help and the price would be lower due to saving on shipping.

There may be import charges that we aren’t aware of when you purchase your mill. Please see the note on our International shipping page. Thanks!

  • Mertzanidis Nikolas

Please could you tell me the price to ship Wonder Junior Deluxe to Greece, thanks

    Hi Kd,

The 240 V. mills are $289.95 USD. Shipping for one mill is normally $95 to
Australia. I’m sure we can arrange a much lower shipping cost per mill for
such a large order. We will just have to do some research into how to ship

    starting point for costs. Thanks.

Popcorn can be ground into cornmeal/flour and so can regular dried
corn or dent corn as it’s often called. Popcorn is just also able to
be popped and eaten like popcorn so I like to store it for both

The WonderMill can grind as fine as a pastry flour. It won’t taste exactly like all purpose flour but it can definitely achieve a similar texture.

How fine can the Electric WonderMill make whole wheat flour? My husband wants the texture to be like all purpose flour. If not is there one that can make wheat flour that fine?

I use the wonder mill for making oat flour I take care of a lady from India who makes up her own recipes. She cannot use her hands to cook so she tells me what to do and I do it. A lot of her recipes for baking use oat flour and dates. We find the wonder mill works great for making oat flour except you cannot fill the hopper, you have to add only about 1/3 cup at a time or it will clog. She is in the process of making a cookbook it will be ready in about a month. It will be called. Vegetarian Main Dishes with Healthy Baked Desserts and Vegan Baked Desserts.

Hi Mark, While I've never tried the country living grain mill, I tend to go off of this chart a lot: http://pgward.org/ep/wp-content/uploads/2009/03… They did a direct comparison on many of the differences between all of the mills. To me it looked like the Wonder Junior Deluxe was the best value for the manual grinders so we feel great about promoting both the electric and manual wondermills. However, it looks like your mill is a great mill as well. Hope that helps a bit.

  • mark hall

I also would like to know the differences because I bought a country living grain mill a few years ago and have not used it. Do you now know of any differences and, in particular, which one is better?

  • Cgentry

I have a question regarding SALT. Why so much salt in storage? Since I have spent half of my life cutting the usage of salt back. Help me understand the large amount. Carole

I bought one years ago that looked a little like a manual pasta maker. Didn't think much of it because the grain wasn't really rolled like commercial products. So the cooking time was increased. I no longer use it.

  • http://foodstoragemadeeasy.net Jodi – Food Storage Made Easy

They seem to have such a narrow purpose that it's not something we have looked into in depth. If we do more research on it we will make sure to post about it!

  • Nysia

do you find a grain flaker/oat roller to be useful or needed? If so, have you tested any?

Thank you for all the wonderful information you've accumulated and are sharing here. I am looking forward to exploring grinding grains and making bread. In preparation for that, I have been researching grain mills and your information has been invaluable. After looking over many comments and other sites, I have seen reference to a rebate on the electric Wondermill. Has this program ended? Do such programs run throughout the year or does the manufacturer offer other sales from time to time worth waiting on? I'm so excited to get started and would like to have a new mill vs. buying a used one, but regardless, I am (like most all here, I would guess) hesitant to jump into making such a major purchase given our limited resources. Thanks for your help!

That's one of my conserns too, time! But I guess without electricity we'll have a lot more time on our hands. Sad, huh. Oh and thanks Jodi and Julie, I just got my wheat grinder on Thursday. Very quick shipping!!! I was a little surprised. Can't wait to use it.

  • http://foodstoragemadeeasy.net Jodi – Food Storage Made Easy

Depending on the quality of your hand grinder it can definitely vary how long it takes to grind. I love having an electric one for day to day use but I have a cheap hand one for “emergencies”. Although I don't know how likely I will be to use it considering mine takes about 6 minutes to grind 1 cup of flour ;)

  • http://foodstoragemadeeasy.net Jodi – Food Storage Made Easy

Hi Channa, Thanks for the comments. It's funny how different people's experiences can be. The BlendTec's we have seen both make enough mess that their owners use them out in the garage or in a box in the pantry. Maybe they were older models or like you said, they didn't assemble it properly. Also we have never had clogging issues with our WonderMills and we have both used them extensively for over a year now. My wondermill takes up very little storage/counter space when I stack it upright, that was one of the things I loved about it. I think you are right, it boils down to what is best for each individual. We found the benefits of the WonderMill worth the extra cost since we use it so often. We do like to hear people's experiences with other mills though because we get asked about this a lot. So thank you for sharing. We appreciate the feedback.

  • kamaile79

Thanks Channa. I figured so much. We wanted to get a hand grinder too but it wasn't in our budget. Plus I couldn't see myself sitting there for hours trying to get flour. My husband said he would still like one when we can save some more, bt at least this way I don't have to spend all day before we can have bread.

  • http://www.grainology.com/ Channa

Coffee Beans have too high moisture content (or is it oil content?) and so cannot be ground in ELECTRIC mills.

  • http://www.grainology.com/ Channa

No battery pack that I know of…but I have a small Honda generator that I'll hook up to power my grinder in the event of no power…and I OWN a hand grinder — the Country Living Grain Mill, which is every bit as sturdy as advertised, but MAN is it hard work to grind enough flour manually for a batch of bread! If I am ever without power for a long spell, I will make my husband hook that manual grain mill up to an exercise bike rather than crank it by hand!!

  • http://www.grainology.com/ Channa

The BlendTec is louder, but it is NOT messy unless you have it assembled incorrectly (people who don't read the assembly instructions think the cyclone cup filtration cup is a measuring cup, and also either forget to insert the foam filter in the side of the motor unit, or don't properly latch the motor unit to the flour bin base). I own the BlendTec Kitchen Mill, and my sister has the WonderMill, so I have used both extensively. I bought the BlendTec because it is so much smaller (takes up way less counterspace) and more compact to store (I have a small kitchen). But I agree that the WonderMill is quieter. As for faster, the difference in grinding speed is not significant enough in my opinion to be a determining factor. The WonderMill has a clogging issue (even though the sales literature says it won't “gum up”, they have a “How to Unclog your WonderMill” video posted on their website – and thank goodness they do because my sister has to unclog hers regularly!)

So, as do most things in life, it boils down to a combination of which factors are more important to you (size vs. noise). and price. At almost $100 less, the BlendTec is a very good value for the same micronizing technology that the WonderMill has.

I was wondering if there’s a battery pack option for this wheat grinder? It would be nice not to have to buy a separate hand crank mill too. Thanks.

Our experience with the blend tec mills is that they are significantly louder, slower, and messier than the Wondermill. Readers have told us they have to use them out in the garage in a cardboard box just to contain the mess and noise. I was completely comfortable paying a higher price to get the WonderMill. It sits on my kitchen counter and gets used 2-3 times a week, even while my kids are napping!

For emergencies I would not recommend anyone purchase an electric version of any appliance. My beloved KitchenAid mixer would be nothing but a counter decoration if we lost power; fortunately, I have the means to mix batter, dough and the like with non-power methods.

In order to do fine flour and cracked wheat as well you would need to use a manual wheat grinder. No electric mills have that capability. The Wonder Junior Deluxe would be a good option.

I want to replace my 35 yr old and broken well used wheat grinder. I don’t see any that will grind all types of grains and seed (beans) into flour as well as cracking into cracked wheat for cereal. Is there any on the market that can crack wheat and make different grades of finess of wheat? thank you
may be of interest I have used my wheat grinder for 35 years and am the auther of book Wonderful Wheat publish 2008. I am desperately interested in finding a wheat grinder.

(((Money out of my hand and product right there into my hand))) But I must say that it got here FAST! My family and I are investigators and will be getting baptized very soon. We were in the middle of a lesson from the Elders when the UPS guy came to our door. You ladies are a wonderful source of information and I just wanted you to know that I am satisfied with the service! Ordering threw you was painless! Now I got to find out where to buy wheat grains and etc…..

I believe you need a manual grinder to make it coarse enough for cream of wheat. However you could try your electric mill on the coarsest setting and see if it works!

What is the best setting to use to make cream of wheat?

I found this from a forum.
—-You can’t mill something very fine like amarynth in the Wondermill or it will get clogged up

Is this true? Also, some comments that the Wondermill dial does not do much difference. Although I will not need cracked grains, I do hope to have coarse flour from time to time (the bran flakes look nice). Will it produce flour like traditional whole wheat by Kingarthur.

PJ, I spoke with our WonderMill rep directly about this. He said if you
set it to the finest setting then popcorn works well to grind into corn
flour. However, since popcorn kernels are rather large, it can jam up the
funnel a little bit, so you just set it back to coarse to unclog it and then
back to fine again. He told us that he uses his mill to make corn flour for
tortillas quite often and it works great. Hope that helps!

I would like to know if the wonder mill can be used to grind corn into corn flour? I have looked but can not find any information about it. Thank you.

I process acorns for food. Do you think that the opening where the nuts go into where they are ground on the wonder junior deluxe would be big enough to let a full sized shelled acorn in to be roughly ground up?

I would like to buy both a hand crank and electric mill. If I purchase both, will I qualify for TWO $30 rebates?

    Thanks so much!

    • http://foodstoragemadeeasy.net Jodi – Food Storage Made Easy

Yes you will! Just print out the rebate form twice. Your receipt will include both mills on it so it should be fine.

  • http://foodstoragemadeeasy.net Jodi – Food Storage Made Easy

The stone burrs will grind wheat, beans, corn, etc. The steel burrs are needed to do oily things such as nuts, seeds, etc. You can purchase the clamp and/or steel burrs separately, just shoot us an email at info@foodstoragemadeeasy.net and we can work it out if that's something you want to consider.

One thing I don’t get about wonder junior basic vs wonder junior deluxe: Will the junior basic only grind wheat but the deluxe with the bur heads will grind beans and other grains? I get that I would probably want a clamp to secure the hand wheat grinder but can I do without the bur heads?

We are going to make a big deal out of the rebate as part of our challenge since WonderMill has been such a great participant and sponsor of the Seven Day Challenge!

Wondermill is doing a rebate from Sept 1-Nov 25th 2009. You can get a manufacturer’s rebate of $30 on BOTH the electric and hand mill. You can do one rebate, or both for a total of $60.

    Hi,
My toddler threw a dry pea seed into the grinder before I put it away. Can I safely turn on grinder and “grind up” the seed without hurting the grinder, or should I try to shake it out again before turning it on?
    Thanks,

Jodi and Julie – My advise to Kristine -

    “BUY THE ELECTRIC WONDERMILL.”

Since “my” Wondermill went to Mandie Jensen (you lucky lady) I had to purchase another one!!! I ordered it last Monday (4/27) – it arrived Thursday (4/30) and my family enjoyed cornbread on Sunday (5/3). It was FANTASTIC !!! Look out Marie Callender. I know that cost is a factor in a decision BUT there is nothing like the electric. It took me 2 hours to get 2 cups with my hand grinder and 2 minutes to get about 20 with my electric. I’m hooked on electric!!!

Ladies, this site is wonderful. Bless you for the time and energy you have put into this site.

Ok, you ladies have convinced me to buy a WonderMill from you BUT I need help in deciding which one. Should I just go ahead & get the electric one or should I go for the Junior that could be used in the event there is no electricity? What are the big cons of the Junior? And….what the heck are burr heads?! (that should tell you how little I know about these things!)

    • Jodi — Food Storage Made Easy

Kristine, We normally recommend that if you are going to be using your food storage on a regular basis that you go for the electric mill. You can always get a hand grinder later as you get more into working on what do in cases of loss of power, etc. If you would just like a mill to have in case of emergency but don’t really plan to use it often, then the wonder junior would be the best bet. Burr heads are either stone or steel. If you use the steel ones you can grind oily things like nuts and seeds that are not able to be ground in traditional electric grinders. Hope that helps a bit!

    Jodi and Julie,

You are such a blessing! Thanks for doing this. I just ordered a mill from you. You must have known that I had just done my research and had told my husband just two days ago that I was going to use my extra money for this particular mill. To get it with free shipping is even better. I am always happy to help home-based businesses to succeed. May you be blessed in your venture!
