I use the wonder mill for making oat flour I take care of a lady from India who makes up her own recipes. She cannot use her hands to cook so she tells me what to do and I do it. A lot of her recipes for baking use oat flour and dates. We find the wonder mill works great for making oat flour except you cannot fill the hopper, you have to add only about 1/3 cup at a time or it will clog. She is in the process of making a cookbook it will be ready in about a month. It will be called. Vegetarian Main Dishes with Healthy Baked Desserts and Vegan Baked Desserts.

I will post when the book is ready if anyone is interested.

I have a question regarding SALT. Why so much salt in storage? Since I have spent half of my life cutting the usage of salt back. Help me understand the large amount. Carole
  • The salt is used in a lot of baking items. We just published the standard food storage charts that are normaly recommended. However, we have begun to explore healthier alternatives. You can see some of our results at this post: http://foodstoragemadeeasy.net/2010/06/30/healt...

do you find a grain flaker/oat roller to be useful or needed? If so, have you tested any?
  • Bunny
I bought one years ago that looked a little like a manual pasta maker. Didn't think much of it because the grain wasn't really rolled like commercial products. So the cooking time was increased. I no longer use it.
  • They seem to have such a narrow purpose that it's not something we have looked into in depth. If we do more research on it we will make sure to post about it!
  • Lane
Thank you for all the wonderful information you've accumulated and are sharing here. I am looking forward to exploring grinding grains and making bread. In preparation for that, I have been researching grain mills and your information has been invaluable. After looking over many comments and other sites, I have seen reference to a rebate on the electric Wondermill. Has this program ended? Do such programs run throughout the year or does the manufacturer offer other sales from time to time worth waiting on? I'm so excited to get started and would like to have a new mill vs. buying a used one, but regardless, I am (like most all here, I would guess) hesitant to jump into making such a major purchase given our limited resources. Thanks for your help!

I am interested in purchasing a hand grinder. I never count on electricity. I want one that can do it all. The Country Living grain mill compared to The Wonder Deluxe. Could anyone share info? I know the difference in price, warranties but what about performance? What are Pros and Cons to each?
  • mark hall
I also would like to know the differences because I bought a country living grain mill a few years ago and have not used it. Do you now know of any differences and, in particular, which one is better?
  • Hi Mark, While I've never tried the country living grain mill, I tend to go off of this chart a lot: http://pgward.org/ep/wp-content/uploads/2009/03... They did a direct comparison on many of the differences between all of the mills. To me it looked like the Wonder Junior Deluxe was the best value for the manual grinders so we feel great about promoting both the electric and manual wondermills. However, it looks like your mill is a great mill as well. Hope that helps a bit.
  • Hi Tamera, The best comparison I have found is at the following link: http://pgward.org/ep/wp-content/uploads/2009/03... Great info on all of the most common grinders both electric and manual.
  • tamerasergent
Thanks so much. I have made my choice and within the next week or so I will be ordering the Wonder Junior Deluxe model.
  • kamaile79
I was wondering if there's a battery pack option for this wheat grinder? It would be nice not to have to buy a separate hand crank mill too. Thanks.
  • No battery pack that I know of...but I have a small Honda generator that I'll hook up to power my grinder in the event of no power...and I OWN a hand grinder -- the Country Living Grain Mill, which is every bit as sturdy as advertised, but MAN is it hard work to grind enough flour manually for a batch of bread! If I am ever without power for a long spell, I will make my husband hook that manual grain mill up to an exercise bike rather than crank it by hand!!
  • kamaile79
Thanks Channa. I figured so much. We wanted to get a hand grinder too but it wasn't in our budget. Plus I couldn't see myself sitting there for hours trying to get flour. My husband said he would still like one when we can save some more, bt at least this way I don't have to spend all day before we can have bread.
  • Depending on the quality of your hand grinder it can definitely vary how long it takes to grind. I love having an electric one for day to day use but I have a cheap hand one for "emergencies". Although I don't know how likely I will be to use it considering mine takes about 6 minutes to grind 1 cup of flour ;)
  • kamaile79
That's one of my conserns too, time! But I guess without electricity we'll have a lot more time on our hands. Sad, huh. Oh and thanks Jodi and Julie, I just got my wheat grinder on Thursday. Very quick shipping!!! I was a little surprised. Can't wait to use it.
  • Kristine
Do you also have any experience w/ the Bosch Nutrimill? How does the Wondermill compare, and most importantly, why do you prefer the WonderMill to the Nutrimill?
  • Faye
I have a Wondermill that was given to me already used. I was not the original purchaser. Some whole oats were put into it for grinding and it is all clogged up. I need to send it somewhere to get it fixed and I don't know where to start. Can you help me with that?
  • Brittena
Question: Do you offer a discount on your mills when buying a big bulk purchase? I had heard that some dealers if you get so many to purchase offer a discount so just wondering.

    Hi,

Can you advise if you can ship to Sydney the Wonder Mill.. I will require 240volt power.

    Thanks
  • We sent you an email about this. We DO ship to Australia. Thanks!
  • mrmqureshi
Would you mind telling the voltage of the electric motor?
  • This one is 110 v. We are also able to order 240 v. units, we just invoice for them separately since we don't get too many requests for them.
  • mrmqureshi
Please qoute me for 240v unit and oblige.Yours Sincerely,M.Qureshi,4 Abbotswood Road,LUTON,LU2 0LS,United Kindom.

I just was pricing mills and I had received information on a blend tec mill that is a lot less expensive than the wondermill and wondered what the difference would be. Anyone have any experience with both mills?
    Thanks!
  • The BlendTec is louder, but it is NOT messy unless you have it assembled incorrectly (people who don't read the assembly instructions think the cyclone cup filtration cup is a measuring cup, and also either forget to insert the foam filter in the side of the motor unit, or don't properly latch the motor unit to the flour bin base). I own the BlendTec Kitchen Mill, and my sister has the WonderMill, so I have used both extensively. I bought the BlendTec because it is so much smaller (takes up way less counterspace) and more compact to store (I have a small kitchen). But I agree that the WonderMill is quieter. As for faster, the difference in grinding speed is not significant enough in my opinion to be a determining factor. The WonderMill has a clogging issue (even though the sales literature says it won't "gum up", they have a "How to Unclog your WonderMill" video posted on their website - and thank goodness they do because my sister has to unclog hers regularly!)

So, as do most things in life, it boils down to a combination of which factors are more important to you (size vs. noise). and price. At almost $100 less, the BlendTec is a very good value for the same micronizing technology that the WonderMill has.
  • Hi Channa, Thanks for the comments. It's funny how different people's experiences can be. The BlendTec's we have seen both make enough mess that their owners use them out in the garage or in a box in the pantry. Maybe they were older models or like you said, they didn't assemble it properly. Also we have never had clogging issues with our WonderMills and we have both used them extensively for over a year now. My wondermill takes up very little storage/counter space when I stack it upright, that was one of the things I loved about it. I think you are right, it boils down to what is best for each individual. We found the benefits of the WonderMill worth the extra cost since we use it so often. We do like to hear people's experiences with other mills though because we get asked about this a lot. So thank you for sharing. We appreciate the feedback.
  • Our experience with the blend tec mills is that they are significantly louder, slower, and messier than the Wondermill. Readers have told us they have to use them out in the garage in a cardboard box just to contain the mess and noise. I was completely comfortable paying a higher price to get the WonderMill. It sits on my kitchen counter and gets used 2-3 times a week, even while my kids are napping!
  • Karen Cook
For emergencies I would not recommend anyone purchase an electric version of any appliance. My beloved KitchenAid mixer would be nothing but a counter decoration if we lost power; fortunately, I have the means to mix batter, dough and the like with non-power methods.
  • drlcolleen
question... how fine does this grind coffee beans
  • Coffee Beans have too high moisture content (or is it oil content?) and so cannot be ground in ELECTRIC mills.
  • TE Colby
I was just given an older Magic Meal grinder, but there are no directions. Do you know where I could get an operation manual?
  • I don't think Magic Meal is affiliated with the WonderMill, so we can't help you much there. Sorry!

I want to replace my 35 yr old and broken well used wheat grinder. I don't see any that will grind all types of grains and seed (beans) into flour as well as cracking into cracked wheat for cereal. Is there any on the market that can crack wheat and make different grades of finess of wheat? thank you
may be of interest I have used my wheat grinder for 35 years and am the auther of book Wonderful Wheat publish 2008. I am desperately interested in finding a wheat grinder.
  • In order to do fine flour and cracked wheat as well you would need to use a manual wheat grinder. No electric mills have that capability. The Wonder Junior Deluxe would be a good option.
  • chandradraxler
Has anyone dry packed cold cereal? I want to add some to my food storage and wondered if it would be okay to dry pack it. Any suggestions would be great.

Now I got to find out where to buy wheat grains and etc.....
  • LGCS
What is the best setting to use to make cream of wheat?
  • I believe you need a manual grinder to make it coarse enough for cream of wheat. However you could try your electric mill on the coarsest setting and see if it works!
  • Ashley
I was hoping it was $20 off the $239, but I guess it's not. Is it? Shucks I was ready to get one.
  • samon
I also need the rebate form. Thanks for all your wonderful work!
  • This should have been sent via your email. Please contact us at info@foodstoragemadeeasy.net if you did not receive it. Thanks!
  • kristinarnold
    Hi there!

We do have the 240 V. mill available although it is slightly more
expensive. Please send us an email at info@foodstoragemadeeasy.net if you

  • Name
I found this from a forum.
----You can't mill something very fine like amarynth in the Wondermill or it will get clogged up

Is this true? Also, some comments that the Wondermill dial does not do much difference. Although I will not need cracked grains, I do hope to have coarse flour from time to time (the bran flakes look nice). Will it produce flour like traditional whole wheat by Kingarthur.
  • pj
I would like to know if the wonder mill can be used to grind corn into corn flour? I have looked but can not find any information about it. Thank you.
  • PJ, I spoke with our WonderMill rep directly about this. He said if you
set it to the finest setting then popcorn works well to grind into corn
flour. However, since popcorn kernels are rather large, it can jam up the
funnel a little bit, so you just set it back to coarse to unclog it and then
back to fine again. He told us that he uses his mill to make corn flour for
tortillas quite often and it works great. Hope that helps!

I process acorns for food. Do you think that the opening where the nuts go into where they are ground on the wonder junior deluxe would be big enough to let a full sized shelled acorn in to be roughly ground up?
  • Michelle
I would like to buy both a hand crank and electric mill. If I purchase both, will I qualify for TWO $30 rebates?

    Thanks so much!
  • Yes you will! Just print out the rebate form twice. Your receipt will include both mills on it so it should be fine.
  • janette25
One thing I don't get about wonder junior basic vs wonder junior deluxe: Will the junior basic only grind wheat but the deluxe with the bur heads will grind beans and other grains? I get that I would probably want a clamp to secure the hand wheat grinder but can I do without the bur heads?
  • The stone burrs will grind wheat, beans, corn, etc. The steel burrs are needed to do oily things such as nuts, seeds, etc. You can purchase the clamp and/or steel burrs separately, just shoot us an email at info@foodstoragemadeeasy.net and we can work it out if that's something you want to consider.
  • sue
does the wondermill jr. deluxe hand mill come with the burrs, stones, and clamp. Does it come with the $30 rebate coupon?
  • The Wonder Junior BASIC does not come with burrs, stones, and clamp. The Wonder Junior DELUXE does come with burrs, stones, and clamp. And yes both qualify for the $30 rebate!
  • Wondermill is doing a rebate from Sept 1-Nov 25th 2009. You can get a manufacturer's rebate of $30 on BOTH the electric and hand mill. You can do one rebate, or both for a total of $60.
  • We are going to make a big deal out of the rebate as part of our challenge since WonderMill has been such a great participant and sponsor of the Seven Day Challenge!
  • If I purchase the WonderMill Junior now, can I buy the clamp and burr heads later? If so, do you know how much they would cost seperately?
  • Yes we can order the parts separately for you if you just shoot us an email about it. The clamp is $30, steel burr heads are $45, and stone heads are $35. Hope that helps!
  • KareM
    Hi,
My toddler threw a dry pea seed into the grinder before I put it away. Can I safely turn on grinder and "grind up" the seed without hurting the grinder, or should I try to shake it out again before turning it on?
    Thanks,
    KareM
  • Kare-

Just to be safe, try emailing the WonderMill directly -
    service@thewondermill.com
They have all the answers to these types of questions. We would hate to say
something and then cause you to break your mill :)

I live in Indonesia, what about shipping cost?
  • Ninik, Please email us at info@foodstoragemadeeasy.net and tell us your exact address and we can provide a quote for shipping to Indonesia. Do you use a 110 V. or a 240 V. there? We can offer both models, just need to know what one you would need. Thanks! -Jodi

Jodi and Julie - My advise to Kristine -

    "BUY THE ELECTRIC WONDERMILL."

Since "my" Wondermill went to Mandie Jensen (you lucky lady) I had to purchase another one!!! I ordered it last Monday (4/27) - it arrived Thursday (4/30) and my family enjoyed cornbread on Sunday (5/3). It was FANTASTIC !!! Look out Marie Callender. I know that cost is a factor in a decision BUT there is nothing like the electric. It took me 2 hours to get 2 cups with my hand grinder and 2 minutes to get about 20 with my electric. I'm hooked on electric!!!

Ladies, this site is wonderful. Bless you for the time and energy you have put into this site.
  • Kristine
Ok, you ladies have convinced me to buy a WonderMill from you BUT I need help in deciding which one. Should I just go ahead & get the electric one or should I go for the Junior that could be used in the event there is no electricity? What are the big cons of the Junior? And....what the heck are burr heads?! (that should tell you how little I know about these things!)
  • Jodi -- Food Storage Made Easy
Kristine, We normally recommend that if you are going to be using your food storage on a regular basis that you go for the electric mill. You can always get a hand grinder later as you get more into working on what do in cases of loss of power, etc. If you would just like a mill to have in case of emergency but don't really plan to use it often, then the wonder junior would be the best bet. Burr heads are either stone or steel. If you use the steel ones you can grind oily things like nuts and seeds that are not able to be ground in traditional electric grinders. Hope that helps a bit!
  • johnnie
I have a magic mill but have lost the bowl and hose. Can I get a replacement. It makes a mess with out it.
    Thanks Johnnie

keep up the good work, You are all Women of Zion, our leaders in the days ahead. You help and inspire me.
  • Candace
How much is shipping, normally? Is it a set price, or does it depend on where you live (I live in WA)? I can't find this information on your website. Thank you!
  • Jodi -- Food Storage Made Easy
Shipping normally costs $10-12 depending on your location.
  • Leslie Roth
Does the Wonder Mill grind soy beans? I saw beans were listed, but the soy beans are so hard, I think, they are in a class by themselves.
  • Jodi -- Food Storage Made Easy
Yes it will grind soybeans as per my user manual!
  • Lisa -- You may want to check out the information at solarovens.org and consider the Sport solar oven.
  • Susan
Where do you buy your corn kernels to grind? I bought some several years ago & canned them. I can't find them online! Thanks for everything, at last I have found a resource that's helped me get serious about food storage & convinced me that I CAN do it!
  • Lindsey
Does the free shipping also include Hawaii? Sorry, I have to ask cause sometimes it does, but not always.
  • Jodi
Lindsey, we will honor the free shipping to Hawaii.
  • Katrina McNiven
Do you know if there is a good quality grinder that can be used manually as well? We just got a WonderMill, but we are wondering if there is a large mill that could be used even if the power is out.
  • Lisa Hunt
I just happened upon your site and it is wonderful. I am looking into SOLAR OVENS and I can not make up my mind on this. I know Wendy DeWitt recommends the Global Sun model. I am just not sure it is the best one for Utah. Wendy lives in Arizona. I would appreciate any ideas on this. Thank you Lisa
  • Grandma Shirley Nelson
I hear you're selling lots of wheat grinders. Way to go!!! I'm so proud of you two. Keep up the good work. gma

    Jodi and Julie,

You are such a blessing! Thanks for doing this. I just ordered a mill from you. You must have known that I had just done my research and had told my husband just two days ago that I was going to use my extra money for this particular mill. To get it with free shipping is even better. I am always happy to help home-based businesses to succeed. May you be blessed in your venture!
