Since we LOVE Food Storage, and LOVE Pinterest (see post here), each day until February 14th, we’ll be showing you some of our favorite Pinterest boards and neat things we have found and have pinned there! It’s so great to see and share what others have done.

Today we are highlighting our Food Storage Gifts board.
PIN 1: One of our favorite gift ideas. #10 can stoves are great for anyone because they can provide people with a way to cook food. Make this with items you already have on hand.

PIN 2: Wheat grass is a fun decorating item, and healthy food item. Check out this pin to see it grown in Christmas mug, but you could use just about any container and do the same thing!

PIN 3: When we got married, we got recipe boxes full of family recipes from Jodi’s mom. You could do a spin on that gift for bridal showers, and make Jodi’s cute recipe binders!

PIN 4: We couldn’t help but share this Valentine’s 72 hour kit for you to make for your loved ones that work at an office.

Find out Jodi's "hot" date idea for Valentine's Day this year. It's a great way for her and her hubby to get useful things AND spend quality time together! Continue reading →

Valentines day is kind of a funny/touchy subject around Julie’s house. Julie and her husband celebrate Christmas, New Years (the day they met…aww how sweet), BOTH birthdays, their wedding anniversary, AND then Valentine’s Day, all within 6-7 weeks. Needless to say by the time Valentines day rolls around, Julie and her husband are STARVED for creative ideas. Some years Valentine’s Day goes uncelebrated due to sheer celebration exhaustion. Jodi had a great idea for this year that Julie might just modify a little …

JODI’S HOT DATE PLAN
This year Jodi decided that instead of “encouraging” her husband to buy her chocolate and flowers … and to bring her to a restaurant (where the line up will be entirely too long), she would suggest something a little different. Jodi’s husband really likes camping, and Jodi has been eyeing some Emergency Preparedness supplies that could double as camping gear (i.e. Dutch ovens, cooking fuels, etc.).

So her plan is for them to get a babysitter, make a shopping list together, and spend the evening at a local camping store stocking up. You know you’ve really gone off the deep-end when this sounds romantic – but hey – it is what it is. They’ll be able to spend some quality time together, spend money on useful items instead of fluff, and become more prepared all at the same time. Needless to say, her husband was excited that he “got off the hook” on gift-giving, AND he gets new camping supplies. It’s a win-win

FOR THOSE WHO ALREADY HAVE DATE PLANS
In case you already have reservations at your favorite restaurant, or a date already planned, here are a couple gift ideas that could be really thoughtful, and wont stick to your hips – the way chocolate and candy tend to.

OFFICE KIT: Here’s a fun little idea you can make for a loved one that works in an office.

My sister Andrea not only just had a BIRTHDAY, but she also just had a BABY (a cute one). Well since I live a couple hours from my sister, I couldn’t just drop over a meal to help with the adjustment. Instead, I did something kinda fun, kinda food storage dorky”ish” but hey – what else would you expect.

Andrea has been talking about how she really wanted to make the Ezekiel Bread I posted about a few weeks ago because it’s so yummy, easy, and healthy. Andrea has a Wondermill but didn’t have all the different kinds of grains and legumes the recipe calls for (it’s not just a typical recipe). This is us… when we got our Wondermills for Christmas a couple years ago – thanks mom! (Andrea is on the right, Michele is on the left, Nicole is not shown – there I didn’t leave any blood related sisters out- )

With a new baby, we all know how getting to a store can be… So I made her mixes with all the grains and legumes pre-measured. All she has to do is throw a mix in the grinder – then to that flour: add wet ingredients, yeast, and pour into bread pans. Of course I made labels to put on the little baggies – If I had to do it again, I would have gotten larger size labels and been able to do cuter, bigger fonts… but hey – we work with what we have sometimes.

She’s already made her first 3 loaves (each recipe makes that much) and told me her bread is better then my bread…. how rude!

Anyways, HAPPY BIRTHDAY ANDREA! Hope you poured lots and lots of sugary jam on that bread- since it IS your Birthday and all..

Our Christmas present to our readers this year, is a 12 Days of Food Storage Christmas with a TWIST – it wont be 12 days, it will be 12 hours…

Rather then drag it out for 12 days, and to allow you the TIME to get going on this – we will be posting all 12 “days” TODAY! Every hour, we’ll post another one of the 12 “days”. Each post will have gift ideas you can use for family, friends, or people you know that are in need. We thought it would be a good idea to help you, help others with their Food Storage this year.

Feel free to use the ideas how you want. Whether you do all 12 days, or just choose one gift, the point is to share your love of food storage, and the peace that comes with being self-reliant. Each “day” will have a theme, and have 3 gift ideas for you:

An option that’s FREE or under $1

An option that costs $5-15

A more expensive option…

We also have this pdf for you to print out that has tags for each day, name tags, and images you can print, and attach to the gifts.

Baking Ingredients are necessary for you to be able to make a lot of recipes using your grains and legumes. There are a variety of ingredients found in this category, so be creative if one of these ideas isn’t available in your local stores. Add the Day 8 Tags to whichever option you choose:

Options that are Free or Under $1

Extra Container of Salt

Salt is one of those things that you run out of, and don’t necessarily think of storing. Find or buy a container of salt and make it cute with ribbons, or put it in a gift bag, and remind them Food Storage isn’t just grains and legumes.

An Option that is $5-$20

A #10 Can of Powdered Milk or Powdered Eggs

Powdered Milk can be one of those things that are hard to find, or hard to remember to use. Give someone a nice #10 can, or box and challenge them to try it out the next time they are cooking with milk. You could also try giving someone a #10 can of powdered eggs to help them learn to experiment with them.

A More Expensive Option

Global Solar Oven

If your gift recipient is new to preparedness they may be worried about powerless cooking. Having a Sun Oven takes away that concern as they will learn how to bake all of their normal foods using the power of the sun.

Here is a handout that includes instructions and a food storage calculator that you can print out, tie a ribbon around, and give to someone.

Well it doesn’t HAVE to be a husband, maybe tell your mom this is what you want, or get it for your mom… you get the drift.

To help you help your special someone come up with a thoughtful and fun gift for you we have put together a little handwritten note you can pass along telling them what you really want is a Food Storage Made Easy Downloadable Binder.

You can send your special someone this link, or print the note itself – whatever works. If your spouses are anything like ours, you’ll enjoy the letter. We finally decided hinting at things does not work so well. Read on…

Also to those of you have been asking, we finally have our bulk pricing for the Food Storage Made Easy Downloadable Binders. We had a lot of people ask about making multiple copies to share and we came up with a way to make it affordable to purchase additional “copies” of the Food Storage Made Easy Downloadable Binder. See the bulk orders sheet for more info.

We wanted to take this time to wish all of our readers a VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS and thank you for being so supportive of us in our food storage adventures. We really feel like we are all here learning together and we love to hear your stories and questions. It’s so helpful to have a huge network of friends and working on it together.

Here’s our little Christmas update since we haven’t blogged for the past few days (been a little busy with Christmas and what not). Both of us received some of the items on our Christmas Wish List:

Julie – Received a Wondermill Wheat Grinder for Christmas, YAY! Her mom is so sweet and bought one for all three of the daughters.

Jodi – Got a great Peggy Layton book called “Cooking with Dried Eggs“. But her favorite gift was an autoshipment of The Ready Project foods that will come every month! Her mom took advantage of our referral program to get 5% off the initial order (you just enter code 61838, it’s so easy).

And as a reminder, in case you missed any of our gifts to you this holiday season, here is a summary of what we have done for you:

Gift #1 – Babystep Checklists: We’re starting a fantastic email reminder system that will help you build your food storage in one year. We break it down into assignments for every two weeks and provide you with simple instructions and free checklists to help you along the way.

Gift #2 – A Big Surprise!: We are going to be teaming up with some other food storage bloggers to provide a fantastic overall system to help with your food storage. Check back January 1 as we will be announcing some more details about our January 5th launch party!

Gift #3 – Revamped BabySteps: We rewrote our babysteps to include more information, better outside resources, and a great summary of each of our personal approaches to food storage. Not to mention we added cute new icons to represent each step
