• PIN 1: One of our favorite gift ideas. #10 can stoves are great for anyone because they can provide people with a way to cook food. Make this with items you already have on hand.
• PIN 2: Wheat grass is a fun decorating item, and healthy food item. Check out this pin to see it grown in Christmas mug, but you could use just about any container and do the same thing!
• PIN 3: When we got married, we got recipe boxes full of family recipes from Jodi’s mom. You could do a spin on that gift for bridal showers, and make Jodi’s cute recipe binders!
• PIN 4: We couldn’t help but share this Valentine’s 72 hour kit for you to make for your loved ones that work at an office.

So her plan is for them to get a babysitter, make a shopping list together, and spend the evening at a local camping store stocking up. You know you’ve really gone off the deep-end when this sounds romantic – but hey – it is what it is. They’ll be able to spend some quality time together, spend money on useful items instead of fluff, and become more prepared all at the same time. Needless to say, her husband was excited that he “got off the hook” on gift-giving, AND he gets new camping supplies. It’s a win-win

FOR THOSE WHO ALREADY HAVE DATE PLANS

	OFFICE KIT: Here’s a fun little idea you can make for a loved one that works in an office. We forget that we may not be in our homes when disaster strikes- and it’s a good idea to be prepared at the office. Click here for instructions on building an Office Disaster Kit (it includes cute little tags).
	CAR KIT: You never know when you could be stranded in a car and need a car kit. How sweet would it be, if you checked out your loved one’s car, and made sure they were completely prepared. For more info on what you can store in your car, visit this page.
	MORE IDEAS: Although we realize it’s not Christmas, the 12 Days of Christmas is full of fun gift ideas that fit any budget (even NO budget). Make sure you check it out for some great ideas.

We encourage you to remember Food Storage and Preparedness when it comes to gifts. It’s such an important thing to remember, and while it might not seem all that glamorous – it’s definitely among the most thoughtful things you can give.

My sister Andrea not only just had a BIRTHDAY, but she also just had a BABY (a cute one). Well since I live a couple hours from my sister, I couldn’t just drop over a meal to help with the adjustment. Instead, I did something kinda fun, kinda food storage dorky”ish” but hey – what else would you expect.

Andrea has been talking about how she really wanted to make the Ezekiel Bread I posted about a few weeks ago because it’s so yummy, easy, and healthy. Andrea has a Wondermill but didn’t have all the different kinds of grains and legumes the recipe calls for (it’s not just a typical recipe). This is us… when we got our Wondermills for Christmas a couple years ago – thanks mom! (Andrea is on the right, Michele is on the left, Nicole is not shown – there I didn’t leave any blood related sisters out- )

With a new baby, we all know how getting to a store can be… So I made her mixes with all the grains and legumes pre-measured. All she has to do is throw a mix in the grinder – then to that flour: add wet ingredients, yeast, and pour into bread pans. Of course I made labels to put on the little baggies – If I had to do it again, I would have gotten larger size labels and been able to do cuter, bigger fonts… but hey – we work with what we have sometimes.

She’s already made her first 3 loaves (each recipe makes that much) and told me her bread is better then my bread…. how rude!

Anyways, HAPPY BIRTHDAY ANDREA! Hope you poured lots and lots of sugary jam on that bread- since it IS your Birthday and all..

Options that are Free or Under $1

Extra Container of Salt

Salt is one of those things that you run out of, and don’t necessarily think of storing. Find or buy a container of salt and make it cute with ribbons, or put it in a gift bag, and remind them Food Storage isn’t just grains and legumes.

An Option that is $5-$20

A #10 Can of Powdered Milk or Powdered Eggs

Powdered Milk can be one of those things that are hard to find, or hard to remember to use. Give someone a nice #10 can, or box and challenge them to try it out the next time they are cooking with milk. You could also try giving someone a #10 can of powdered eggs to help them learn to experiment with them.

A More Expensive Option

If your gift recipient is new to preparedness they may be worried about powerless cooking. Having a Sun Oven takes away that concern as they will learn how to bake all of their normal foods using the power of the sun.

Since it IS Christmas, try baking one of your favorite food storage recipes and bring it over to a friend. Who doesn’t love treats?! Tell them (after they have tried it) that you used Food Storage and they can too!

Here’s our little Christmas update since we haven’t blogged for the past few days (been a little busy with Christmas and what not). Both of us received some of the items on our Christmas Wish List:
