Powerless Cooking Event – LIVE RECORDING

Events, Powerless Cooking
We had so many readers ask if we could record our Powerless Cooking Event that we held earlier this month. We did a recording but weren't sure how the quality would work out. We've done a bit of editing and think that it is at least watchable and you can hear everyone, so we decided to post it, even though the quality isn't totally professional. We actually forgot to hit the record button so the beginning is a little funny because you miss half of the intro. Hope this is helpful if you have a spare hour to check it out. You can also download the FREE HANDOUTS we distributed at the class with tutorials on how to make your own inexpensive stoves and ovens. For more details on all…

Join us on May 10 for a FREE Powerless Cooking Event in Draper, UT We're excited to be hosting a free Powerless Cooking Event! The event will consist of 2 parts- instruction and booth time. The instruction portion of the event will last about 1 hour and include segments featuring various products, that will be taught by experts from the respective companies of each powerless cooking tool. This will allow for you to learn as much as possible about multiple options, then delve…

We know we've been covering Powerless Cooking a LOT the past few weeks. It's a major goal of ours to become better at this stuff... but We DO remember what it was like to find all these tools COMPLETELY overwhelming. So from now on, we'll post most of our weekly attempts at cooking a meal without power on our Summer Adventures page. You may want to bookmark that page, or subscribe to our new YouTube channel to get immediate access to the videos (more on our YouTube channel next week). We'll still mention it on facebook and here and there on the blog, but we'll be back to a variety of the posts next week. Since Jodi tried her Sun Oven with rice last week, I worked up the courage…

It's hard to believe, but 3 years have passed since we started this blog. When we first started, the thought of powerless cooking paralyzed us. We felt so overwhelmed by gathering a food storage, we couldn't face figuring out how to cook the foods without power too! We decided we would break the process of actually building our storage down into BabySteps, and THEN deal with powerless cooking later. Well this year is the year we are really focusing on powerless cooking. If you've followed along, you know it's one of our goals for 2011. We KNOW from our 7 day challenge that trying these things out and practicing them is SO valuable. So this summer we're going to try cooking without power! We hope you'll join us in this…

Powerless Cooking: Sun Ovens

Powerless Cooking
When Julie and I first started this blog back in 2008 we decided to take things in BabySteps so as to not get overwhelmed. One of the biggest fears we had about getting started was dealing with powerless cooking situations, so we decided to work on getting our food first so that we would at least be doing SOMETHING. Over the last few months you may have noticed us going through powerless emergencies during the 7 Day Challenge, and discussing what we would do in extended powerless situations in the One Second After book discussions. Needless to say, we are NOW definitely thinking about powerless cooking! Introducing Global Sun Oven Right before the 7 Day Challenge we were contacted by Global Sun Oven and they were gracious enough to let…
