I am looking for a vertical food grade water storage tank/barrel. I saw one on a website but can't find it now. As I recall it was tall and fairly narrow and held over 100 gallons of water. It came in either a white or black plastic. Has anyone seen anything like this?

I know you can buy empty #10 cans at LDS church canneries. You can also purchase foods online that come in the #10 cans and then reuse them for your "make a mixes" when you finish the food. If those options don't work for you, you can always just use good tupperwares for the mixes. You generally won't be using them for long term storage anyway. Hope that helps a bit!

I was wondering where I could purchase the #10 cans. Are these the best thing to store all the "make a mixes" in? I just got a great book handed down from my mom in law of all these mixes and I am wondering the best way to store them. As well as bulk foods, such as pastas? Thank you for all the information. It is great!

Cheryl,

In the binder format we envision "beyond the babysteps" to be anything that doesn't fit into a particular babystep section. Things like alternative heat and cooking sources, shelter, sanitation, etc. Sort of a dumping ground for you to put in your own materials that you find. If we do posts that fall into those items we will definitely be adding them in to the binder as well.

The evaporation still I would recommend putting in the Step 2 water section. Since it is your own resource binder it is good to have all the stuff sorted by topics. We don't include those advanced things on our "BabyStep" pages because they are a bit complicated and we don't want people to get overwhelmed when they are just getting started, but they still would fit under the water category. Does that make sense?

-Jodi

Your website is fantastic - and you are providing a great service. My wife and I are finally getting serious about building up our own food storage, and we are now well on our way. I know first-hand how tough it is to get started. I have owned my own preparedness business (http://www.iPrepare.com) for over 10 years, and have always had the 72-hour kits and other supplies. But, I always put off the food storage/years supply. But no longer. With sites like yours, we are well on our way. Thanks!

Hey just to let you know that I love your food storage programs for excel, thank you for them. Also I do not have the excel program but I do have a program called open office that opens excel programs and runs them! Thought I would let you know there are options for us that do not have excel. Thanks again!

Hi. I love your food storage site. It's obvious you practice what you preach and that you're not just another repeater site for products.

I'm the author of "Disaster Prep 101," an extensive all-hazards family preparedness manual that has been in use now by individual chapters of the Red Cross, CERT, and numerous law enforcement, first responder, and homeland security groups.

We've recently developed an affiliate program and I'd like to invite you to take a look. The direct link is www.disasterprep101.com/affiliates.htm.

Thanks for your time.
