Don’t be a Food Storage Fool

APRIL1

Come On!
YOU KNOW THERE’S SOMETHING YOU HAVE BEEN PUTTING OFF
When it comes to Food Storage…
It’s always kind of nagging you, in the back of your mind.

“Hypothetically” speaking, Julie may be feeling guilty she has yet to add clothes and diapers for her 5 month baby to her disaster kit… maybe… And Jodi may be embarrassed to admit she still hasn’t filled her new water boxes…

BUT ENOUGH IS ENOUGH – WE ARE GOING TO

COMMITT

Here is how it’s going to work:
Pick one thing- ONE thing you KNOW you should do
Commit to doing that one thing by OR on April 1st
Tell us your first name, where you are from, and what you’re doing
Post it in the comments below, or on facebook
Come back April 1st and report
That’s it
NO NO NO EXCUSES!
We’re all in this together!

I want to purchase your Binder as gifts for my children. Can I get the hard copy binder ?ย

    • We only have the ebooks available. You can purchase multiple printing rights at a discount and create the binders though. Each file comes with instructions on how to put them together just like ours.

We will be rotating all of our water storage this weekend, that means doing lots of laundry to use up (but not waste!) our year-old water. I'll also be rotating out any foods in our 72-kit and car that may be getting stale. Spring Conference is our yearly reminder to rotate and resupply.

  • Jewelle

I'm going to replace my water, and get my 72 hours updated with food and entertainment.

I have been doing food storage for a year. I will work on the 72 hour kits for myself, husband, 15 year old DD & 78 year old Mom. What a stretch!

I’ve been wanting a rotating can rack for over a year now! I loved the shelf reliance shelves but not the price. So for over a year now I’ve been going to build my own shelves. Well, NO MORE PROCRASTINATION! I ordered my new shelves last night and can’t wait for them to get here. Finally a place to put my food storage.

Clean out the storage area under my stairs. That is where I will be storing the buckets of wheat, etc., and larger bulk items.

I am going to a few things, but since I have to work and won’t have a lot of time between today and Thursday, I am going to go to Walgreens, use my coupons and get several months supply of dental floss and shampoo. I have to make my plan so I can progress in taking care of my family.

    Thanks, DianaMae

I am going to finish my 72 hour kit and put it in the backpacks that have been gathering dust in my basement. Right now I have a partial kit in a tote but the backpacks are much easier to carry.

I have two small things to do for my cat bag: get pix and records. Ok, so I have two things!

    Thanks for the reminder!

On April 1 I will do my best to committ to making a list of foods that my huband and I eat regularly and then using that list for food storage buys

HI,Sherio. Purchase from “Emergency Essentials” the emergency siphon hose. It is 7 foot long. Does the job great. I also ordered the “Siphon Hose Adapter” I can connect the siphon hose to our garden hose when I empty my 50 gal barrels each summer to water garden, lawn, etc. This is NOT a sales pitch for Emergency Essentials–However I find their prices great.

I’m pledging to complete my 72 hour kits! Have most of what is needed, just need to organize and also do one for my 87 yearold mother who live with us. that means at least a weeks worth of meds, etc. Will take some thinking to do one for her. But I will do it!

  • Jan Davis

I will definitely order new water boxes and emergency food bars for our back packs instead of just thinking about it.

    Thanks for the challenge!!!
I’m cleaning out spare bedroom closet. I’m going to gut it and put in shelving. Then start putting my 3 months supply, beginning with water!!!
Thank you for sharing your talents. I have greatly benefited. You ladies ROCK!!!!

Rotating or updating your 72 hourkit at Conference time is a good way to remember to keep things fresh. maybe use it up during the saturday afternoon session, then replenish and evaluate if it was enough or should have other things in it.

I have yet to make a year’s worth of menus to help be sure that I am stocking enough of the foods we eat regularly. I know it would be helpful for me to do it, so I will put it on my to-do list for this week.

Just a quick tip. A really good place to store those bottles is the deep freezer! Not only will it keep them out of the way, but it will lower your energy bill by making it easier for your freezer to keep the food cold, and it is a great back-up to help keep it cold in there in case the power goes out. Just make sure you leave a few out un-frozen for quick use in an emergency.

  • Eunice Robertson

I am Eunice Robertson, from KwaZulu Natal in South Africa. This week I am going to add to my water storage. I have been collecting plastic 2 litre bottles for ages, meaning to fill them up, and haven’t got to doing it yet. So, this week I am joining you and getting it done, before the Easter weekend. We do tend to procrastinate, don’t we?

I do this too, mainly for camping. I also have an ice maker in my freezer that seems to overflow constantly, I fill galon freezer bags with the extra ice & keep them in my freezer as well for the same purpose.
