Welcome to DAY 3 of the 2025 7 Day Challenge. Today is a special day because it’s also National Situational Awareness Day so we will be focusing on that in this day’s scenario and doing a special educational class tonight!
In order to receive each day’s emergency scenario in your email please sign up for the 7 Day Challenge email list or subscribe via text by texting 7daychallenge to 717-788-3663.
REMEMBER: To get the most out of the challenge, don’t be too literal about the scenarios. Modify them to fit YOUR family’s situation. Also, try to actually DO each day’s tasks. Don’t try to justify why you wouldn’t “need” to. The point is to PRACTICE our skills!
DAY 3: CIVIL UNREST 👊

Civil unrest has broken out in your city. Roads are blocked, protests have turned violent, and local authorities are overwhelmed. In times like this, your best defense may not be a gadget it can be your awareness. Being able to notice what’s happening around you, avoid danger, and act quickly can keep you and your loved ones safe.
TODAY’S CHALLENGES:
👉 Register for my Situational Awareness Class and watch it TONIGHT at 8 pm EDT.
👉 While running errands today (or even walking around your home/neighborhood), practice situational awareness techniques (see helpful hints below for ideas!)
👉 Go over some safety tips with your kids (see helpful hints below for ideas)
Remember … you don’t have to be perfect. Just being intentional about noticing your surroundings makes a huge difference.
HELPFUL HINTS:
Tips to improve your situational awareness:
– Be mindful
– Identify exits
– Watch people without staring
– Notice nonverbal cues
– Limit distractions
– Trust your gut
– Be strategic
– Carry protection
Safety tips for kids:
– Always know where the nearest exit is
– Hold hands in a crowd
– Memorize their full name, your phone number, and home address
– Look Up, Not Down: Heads up, not buried in a phone
– Recognize “helpers” in public places (store clerks, police officers, or others who could help)
Awareness is your #1 first line of defense but tools can help! Check out some of the amazing self defense products I recommend from Damsel in Defense.
REFLECTION:
Take a few minutes after your practice time today to think through what went well and what areas you could improve on. Here are some questions to ask yourself:
- Did you feel more alert when practicing today, or did it feel uncomfortable?
- Did you notice things you’ve never paid attention to before?
- Did you find exits, safe spots, or alternate paths you could use in an emergency?
- How would your kids react if you weren’t there to guide them in a tense situation?
- What tools could you invest in to help you feel more confident as you go about your daily life?
Print out the worksheets below and add items you need to do, to learn, and to buy as you find holes in your preparedness plans today. Print multiple sheets as needed.

SHARING TIME:
One of the best parts of the challenge each year is seeing how everyone else survived the day. You’ll get new ideas and encouragement just by reading the stories! Here’s how to join in the conversation:
- Post in the Facebook Group thread for Day 3: Tell us how your experience was. What did your kids think about the lessons? Have you ever had a time where situational awareness helped you survive a potential disaster?
⚠️ Don’t skip this part! Who knows, a story you share could save someone’s life later.
