Welcome to DAY 6 of the 2025Ā 7 Day Challenge. For 7 days, we are testing our Emergency Preparedness and Food Storage Plans. Try not to get 2020 PTSD as we go through today’s challenge y’all!
In order to receive each dayās emergency scenario in your email please sign up for the 7 Day Challenge email list or subscribe via text by texting 7daychallenge to 717-788-3663.
REMEMBER: To get the most out of the challenge, donāt be too literal about the scenarios. Modify them to fit YOUR familyās situation. Also, try to actually DO each dayās tasks. Donāt try to justify why you wouldnāt āneedā to. The point is to PRACTICE our skills!
Day 6: PANDEMIC š¦

A pandemic outbreak has swept through your community. Hospitals are overwhelmed and closed for all non-life-threatening cases. You must handle minor medical issues like cuts, burns, sprains, or fevers at home. Do you have the supplies and skills to keep your family safe until professional care is available?
TODAYāS CHALLENGES:
š Practice using your first aid kit: bandage a pretend cut, wrap a sprained ankle, and treat a fake burn.
š Take inventory of your first aid supplies. Check expiration dates on meds, ointments, and bandages.
š Teach kids (and/or your spouse š) where your supplies are stored and how to use the basic items.
š Bonus: Look up one new skill youād like to learn (CPR, wound care, or how to use a splint).
HELPFUL HINTS:
First Aid Kit Basics: Bandages, gauze, antiseptic, gloves, pain relievers, thermometer.
Extra Supplies: Instant cold packs, elastic wraps, digital pulse oximeter, childrenās fever medicine.
Organization: Keep your kit in a clearly labeled container and store a smaller version in your car.
Training Counts: The best kit is useless if you donāt know how to use it. Consider signing up for a first aid or CPR class in your local area. Here is a summary of a basic first aid class I took at church a few years back.
Natural Alternatives: If you are interested in learning about natural alternatives to traditional medicines check out this blog post for ideas.
REFLECTION:
Take a few minutes after your āfirst aidā day to think through what worked and what didnāt. Here are some questions to ask yourself:
- Did your kit have everything you needed, or were you improvising?
- Were any meds or supplies expired?
- Would your family know how to find and use the kit if you werenāt home?
- How confident did you feel practicing simple first aid skills?
- If medical care was unavailable for a week, what would be your biggest concern?
Print out the worksheets below and add items you need to do, to learn, and to buy as you find holes in your preparedness plans today. Print multiple sheets as needed.

SHARING TIME:
One of the best parts of the challenge each year is seeing howĀ everyone elseĀ survived the day. This is a powerful one to share because everyone can learn new tips! Hereās how to join in the conversation:
- Post in theĀ Facebook Group threadĀ for Day 6: What skills did you practice today? Were there any supplies you realized you need to add to your kit? Share what you learned!
- Photos welcome but not requiredĀ ā you can just describe your experience if youād rather not show your supplies.
Donāt skip this part! Remember ⦠the group conversation is one of the most valuable parts of the seven day challenge.
