Welcome to DAY 7 of our 15 Minute Prepping Projects series. Today we are going to work on one of the most important things in emergency preparedness. We are going to FILL empty water containers and/or rotate our water supply.
Every day for the month of September we will celebrate National Preparedness Month by undertaking a small task to help us get more prepared. Do as few or as many days as you want. Jump in at any time. Do them out of order, or more than one in a day. And feel free to share what you are doing!

Today’s task is a simple but important one that often gets neglected. Do you have any empty water storage containers just waiting to be filled up? Take fifteen minutes and FILL THEM UP today! If you are already prepared and have your water stored, today would be a good day to rotate it. Try to find ways to use the water such as for flushing toilets, watering plants, doing dishes, etc.
Water Storage Tips:
- Store water in “FOOD GRADE” or PETE plastic containers (stay away from milk jugs, but soda or juice bottles are suitable).
- Water Bricks are another good option. They are a heavier duty solution, can be stored outside, and can be stacked 3/4 bricks high. With a 3.5 gallon capacity they are transportable and easy to use in an emergency.
- Water should be rotated about once a year unless you treat it with water treatment drops like aquamira which can extend it to 4-5 years.
- Consider storing 1-2 two liter bottles in the cupboard of each bathroom. These can be used for an emergency toilet flushing or for water needs in an emergency without having to haul bigger jugs from room to room. This was suggested by a member of our Facebook Group and I LOVED the idea!
Hope you get a lot accomplished today and remember you can do anything for fifteen minutes!
