Welcome to DAY 9 of our 15 Minute Prepping Projects series. Today we are going to put together a simple grab list of what you should take in case you need to evacuate your home in a hurry.
Every day for the month of September we will celebrate National Preparedness Month by undertaking a small task to help us get more prepared. Do as few or as many days as you want. Jump in at any time. Do them out of order, or more than one in a day. And feel free to share what you are doing!

When disaster strikes the last thing you want to be thinking about is what to grab. My cousin Jenn posted in my Facebook group the other day about a scare she had the other day with a fire being close to her home. I think she summed up what a lot of us would feel in this situation when she said “After I was told to evacuate, I stood in my house stunned, having no idea what I should grab other than my cats and my documents.”
Today we are going to think through this scenario when we are NOT in emergency mode so that we can make it easier on ourselves when we ARE in an emergency situation. Here are few tips to consider as you put together your own grab and go list today (or update what you already have)
- Place your list close to the exit you will use (like your garage door)
- List things in order of importance s…≥÷o that if you have a limited amount of time you will make sure you at least got the critical items
- Don’t forgot obvious things like cell phones and purses. If they aren’t on your list you might not remember them
- Assign items to particular people, and if the aren’t there when you evacuate, figure out how you will double up
- Don’t forget to include pets and supplies
- If you have small children, write down who os going to grab what children (and diaper bags, etc.) and get them loaded in the car FIRST.
- Depending on the emergency make sure to grab: 72 hour kits, emergency binder, photos/scrapbooks, journals, etc.
Have fun with this important task today … and remember you can do anything for fifteen minutes!
