BREAD: No Grinding, No Kneading, No Electricity, No Problem!

White Flour Recipes
During our annual 7 Day Challenge last month one of the days we were practicing living without electricity and had to make bread. I knew I had a busy day ahead of me but I still wanted to accomplish the task, so I decided to try an experiment. I researched some no knead bread recipes and found that most of them depended on cooking at a high temperature in order to achieve a thick, crunchy "artisan" crust. I decided to tweak a few of these and make them my own and cook it in the Sun Oven. So here is how it went! No Knead Bread Recipe Ingredients: 3 cups of all-purpose flour 1/2 teaspoon instant or rapid rise yeast 1 3/4 teaspoon kosher salt 1 1/2 cups cool tap…

The Great Cake Debate

Extreme Food Storage Makeover, Wheat Recipes, White Flour Recipes
Jodi's dad is one of the hardest people to win over to the whole wheat camp. He hates everything that Grandma Lori makes with whole wheat which makes her a little hesitant to keep cooking with it. He's typically not even willing to try something if he catches on that there might be whole wheat in it. So this Thanksgiving we concocted a sneaky plan ... Two Innocent-Looking Pumpkin Cake Batters One is made with 100% fresh ground whole wheat flour, the other is made with store-bought white flour. (Hint, white flour is on the left) Can You Tell the Difference? The whole wheat cake (right) was a little darker. The white flour cake (left) rose a little higher. We are thinking we could probably add a little more leavening…

If you are anything like me, you probably don't remember to get your rolls ready 4 hours in advance for proper rising.
