Powerless Cooking Event – LIVE RECORDING

Events, Powerless Cooking
We had so many readers ask if we could record our Powerless Cooking Event that we held earlier this month. We did a recording but weren't sure how the quality would work out. We've done a bit of editing and think that it is at least watchable and you can hear everyone, so we decided to post it, even though the quality isn't totally professional. We actually forgot to hit the record button so the beginning is a little funny because you miss half of the intro. Hope this is helpful if you have a spare hour to check it out. You can also download the FREE HANDOUTS we distributed at the class with tutorials on how to make your own inexpensive stoves and ovens. For more details on all…

7 Day Challenge, Powerless Cooking
This post is part of our 7 Day Challenge RECAP series we promised you. Once a week we will be going more in depth on one of the days of the 7 day challenge to highlight our learnings, favorite comments from participants, and giving additional information where necessary. We did use the quickstove (use referral code jodi&julie and get 50% off per can) for the first time on this day of the challenge and we were pleasantly surprised by how easy it was to use. Julie also cooked pizza from scratch this day - like ground the wheat for the dough, used…

YOU’RE INVITED: POWERLESS COOKING ADVENTURES!

Events, Powerless Cooking, Powerless Cooking Adventures
It's hard to believe, but 3 years have passed since we started this blog. When we first started, the thought of powerless cooking paralyzed us. We felt so overwhelmed by gathering a food storage, we couldn't face figuring out how to cook the foods without power too! We decided we would break the process of actually building our storage down into BabySteps, and THEN deal with powerless cooking later. Well this year is the year we are really focusing on powerless cooking. If you've followed along, you know it's one of our goals for 2011. We KNOW from our 7 day challenge that trying these things out and practicing them is SO valuable. So this summer we're going to try cooking without power! We hope you'll join us in this…

Introducing Insta-Fire (Emergency Cooking Fuel)

Insta-Fire, Powerless Cooking
In Monday's post, we talked about different options for storing fuel. Today we wanted to share with you a product we have recently found out about and are pretty excited about too! Insta-Fire is a safe, simple, and versatile new fire starting product. It has water-repellant properties, and a thirty year shelf life. Use it to light campfires, prepare charcoal briquettes, or as a safe and reliable fuel source for cooking or heating in emergency situations. In an emergency you will most likely need to boil water, cook your food and heat your shelter. This fuel can be used in a wide variety of cooking stoves, even ones you can make out of #10 cans! Proper ventilation is always necessary. To see why we are so excited about this product…
