Added BabyStep 4 to Main Topics!

We added a BabyStep! Check out the BabySteps 4 main topic page to learn about an easy way to start the daunting task of your Long-Term Food Storage. We are getting really excited as we are starting to delve into the deeper and more complicated aspects of food storage. We are learning new things every day and will be sharing them with you as we get them down to a simplified format.

Note: Julie made a great instructional video as part of this step, so if you want to put a face to her name you should definitely check it out!

Linda, I’m glad you like our site! I’m always on the look out for good food storage information so your post caught my attention πŸ™‚ Thanks for posting to your food storage group also, that’s awesome!

Alicia, Thank you so much for the canner information. I am definitely going to have to research this more. I’ve only done regular canning of like peaches, pickles, tomatoes, etc. but I am really interested in expanding into the pressure canning so I can do a bunch more things. I love having home-canned foods for my food storage!

  • I saw your comment (Jodi) on my blog asking about where I got my canner. I got it through a local hardware store, but I have also seen them at Wal-Mart. Or you can order online through several places I have found. One source I really like for food storage/emergency preparedness is Lehmans (they have an online store as well as catalog). Or through “All American” which is the name of the company. Or you can just do a search for all american canners. The model I use is the 921, its tall enough for 2 layers of jars while canning. I really like it over a gasket style canner, plus it essentially never wears out. I don’t know it you can now, or if you are looking to learn how to can, but the best place to get information on canning times/recipes/instruction is the USDA (they have a book, or online guide) or from a local Cooperatvie Extension Service or I’m happy to help. I’m going to bookmark your site too. Thanks! Alicia

We would love to have you link to us on your blog. We are really trying to spread the word about the fact that food storage doesn’t have to be so hard! Anyone can at least get started and take it slowly. And we’ve already learned a lot from our readers leaving their tips as well.

By the way, I noticed you have a link to Flylady on your site. I LOVE FLYLADY!
